#note I was getting to the point where I just could not process all these racks where my best plays left more garbage than good tiles. I didn't like G7 IVY. I saw BEIGY, didn't like it, and said, 'screw it.' This is a reasonable choice. Should I have played BEIGY? Maybe...
>David_Gremaud: EHMUX H3 EXHUM. +26 40
#note ...except he'd be playing HEX J4 for 56 and I'd be trailing by 54 points instead of 40! So I definitely came out ahead by exchanging. :-)
>Jim_Burlant: DDEKRTU 3B DETRUD. +22 22
#note Another miss. DUET I3 scores 28.
>David_Gremaud: FGO E2 F.OG +16 56
>Jim_Burlant: AAEKRST J7 KARATES +71 93
#note Probably a smidge better at J5 for 2 more. I chose this placement to avoid easy KI/KA plays at K5.

#note With the previous day's drawing woes continuing into the first stretch of this day, the repeated frustration of having to play off my good tiles while keeping the junk caught up to me. I once again fell into the trap of grooming the rack. Depending on your perspective, it may or may not be right to exchange. 12A CAGER scores 26, but it gives me 5 chances at an I for QI 2A on the next turn. I only made a token effort to look at anything beyond exchanging here. A sim indicates that CAGER is best, this is next best, winning roughly 0.2% less often than CAGER. But the equity loss is rather larger for such a small difference in winning percentage. YMMV.

>Jim_Burlant: ACELLOR 5G C.OLERAL +76 169
#note Why play a real word when I can make one up? :-) Truth of the matter is that the bane of the new words strikes again: I saw OCELLAR and most of the 8's (none of which play), and there was something gnawing at me that OCELLAR had an anagram...but I couldn't find it. CORELLA, which would have played at K1, is my only legitimate bingo. So at this point, I recalled the advice Darrell Day gave me years ago: if it's plausible, put it down and put the onus on your opponent to challenge. I wouldn't have dared play this against an expert but I thought I could gamble on this against David. This wasn't even held.

>Jim_Burlant: EJLMORU L3 JO.UM +28 197
#note The rack grooming trap strikes again; too easy to look to build a high prob rack and not have to play off my bingo tiles to do it. So I looked to unload the J and M and it never occurred to me to score 40. That's how I managed to not see JUROR L1. This is awful!

#note More weakness. 9H DIRL!
>David_Gremaud: EWY M7 YEW +28 244
>Jim_Burlant: AEILNQR 2A QI +28 247
#note At least it plays this time. I'd have thought this was best but apparently, given that I trail by a half step the duck feels I need to open row 15 with QUIN L12.
>David_Gremaud: ACITT O6 ATTIC +26 270
>Jim_Burlant: ?AELNNR 14B ENsNARL +80 327
#note Only bingo. I've drawn my way back to 80% to win in a short sim.
>David_Gremaud: DEZ O1 ZED +47 317
>Jim_Burlant: AABORSW 15H ABO +21 348
#note First order of business is to make sure he can't bingo on row 15. Statically, a bunch of plays unloading the W sim best (15H AWA, D3 TWA, etc.) look better to Quackle. However, with this keeping a W for something like TWA D3 next turn, this or OBA in the same location is best.
>David_Gremaud: OST 9H SO.T +28 345
>Jim_Burlant: AABORSW D3 .WA +25 373
#note For some reason, the duck thinks I should fish off an A with ZEDA O1. I didn't look past this; it scored 25 (the most I could score without unloading the S), it unloaded the W, and left me a balanced if not incredibly bingo prone ABORS. Why is a single tile fish preferable to this when I score 7 more here? Can someone explain that?
>David_Gremaud: AIV J2 VIA. +15 360
>Jim_Burlant: ABENORS 12L NAB +16 389
#note Sitting on this, I was cursing myself for TWA; AW 15A would have left me a lane for a SEABORNE bingo. Instead, with my tracking a total mess - despite having taken a couple of minutes to double-check it - I had no idea what he was sitting on - I decided to set myself up for an out-in-two.
>David_Gremaud: EILOR H1 RE....... +63 423
>David_Gremaud: EILOR -- -63 360
#note Perfect play for David is REOIL C5 which loses by 10. When he put this down, I was stunned - OMFG, is that even good? I did the math, realized that all of my out plays (ROES 6B, SORE/EROS O12) came up short if the play stuck, so I challenged.
