#note This play does a bunch of things. The main things are to move vowels and set yourself up with a decent leave while scoring a few points. Positionally it's interesting, though -- it sets up the T for D column. It also starts to control the top of the board -- the upper left quadrant is probably going to be useless for bingos after this play, row 1 notwithstanding. Positionally it doesn't *do* stuff, but it starts to develop in a way that if I bing first -- which seems likely -- I'll be in a position where controlling the board will be a reasonable task.
>Martin: BNRTU D1 BRUNT +31 133
#note This massacres the upper left quadrant.

There might be positional advantages to this play two or three turns from now, if he doesn't hit row 14/15, but not worth giving up ten points.

#note Oh my the best play is pretty. It's also not what I made.
>Martin: NQRU 14F QU.RN +36 221
#note Pretty happy to see this go down, actually, especially holding a mouse. Lower left is going to be difficult to develop, and a K column play using the mouse will score and make developing the lower right a challenge. Restricting the board in this way with merely a tempo lead, though, can be risky....
>Lipey: IIIMNSV K10 MINIS +29 249
#note 1) QUERN blocked DIVINISM* which isn't a word but was what I was about to play
2) Q suggests some stuff that's not a K-column play, but K column is forced here. Whether VIMS or MINIS is better, yeah, you'll feel dumb if you give up an L column bingo here, but I really don't want to pull a third I again.
>Martin: ELTWY 3K WETLY +45 266
#note Nice play!
>Lipey: ?DINPTV I2 .D.PT +20 269
#note Happy to see the second bunny. I'll be down a tempo after WETLY scored so much.

>Martin: OOT 8L .OOT +12 292
#note Things aren't hopeless for opp here. SOOT is tough positionally, though -- it forks the board, letting me make a play on the right to kill it all, while there's no real threat on the left. (10A ending in -TS, perhaps, but even that gives me A column to come back ...) I think the play here needs to be on the left side of the board, leaving the possibility of a miracle Y bingo or some crazy M9 overlap while making me address the left side of the board. It's a difficult position no matter what ....
>Lipey: AAFGIOR N6 GR.OF +21 374
>Lipey: AAEIJLO (challenge) +5 379
#note Burning equity for board position. Have to make O column difficult. Smth like 1A AIRBAG is great in a neutral position, but here is a stupid way to add entropy to a position.
>Martin: AC 2B CA. +10 302
#note This is a great play! Surprisingly hard to block!
>Lipey: AAEIJLO 15D AJI +22 401
#note 1) trumpwrong.gif
2) Can't block A column, so try to set up a situation to outrun. Play the J, score some points leave some tiles in the bag, and hope things work out.
>Martin: CEINOSS 10E CO. +7 309
#note The bingo isn't going to win, most likely, but still owche.
>Lipey: AEILMOO E10 .OOM +16 417
#note This is simply not a good play.
