#player1 Jason_Li Jason Li
#player2 Joshua_Sokol Joshua Sokol
>Jason_Li: AEEIJWY H6 JEW +26 26
#note Jason exchanged 1, I responded with this because it seemed correct, he doesn't usually have an S and this allows me to maintain scoring opportunities
>Joshua_Sokol: AAGINST 9C AGAINST +75 75
>Jason_Li: AEIKLYY 8A KEY +35 61
#note Jason is likely to play down on column I here for board control I thought, so I figured I'd keep the Y to play (JO)Y. Quackle prefers YAY in the same spot. I knew it was better equity, but I think this is fine in the prospect of leaving lanes open and being able to better respond to defensive plays. I was wrong.
>Joshua_Sokol: ADELMNO F3 MELANO.D +67 142
#note Sacrificing a lot of points over LEMONAD(E), probably smart.
>Jason_Li: ?AEEILY E5 ALIY. +29 90
#note Taking extra points once again to leave the board in better shape. I don't want to play anything on column E that can be overlapped for a lot on column D. Quackle once again disagrees and I once again disagree with Quackle.
>Joshua_Sokol: OUV 3C OVU. +18 160
#note and once again Quackle was right. Lucky ducky, finding the right plays for the wrong reasons two turns in a row. This time, Jason had to unload junk and probably didn't have any big overlaps on column D. Last time, he had a bingo so I should have gone with pure equity.
>Jason_Li: ?ADEEES 8H .EASElED +88 178
>Joshua_Sokol: GIZ K5 ZIG. +28 188
>Jason_Li: FIIMOUX 5I FI. +15 193
#note At this point I feel like Jason isn't likely to be able to respond well to my setup. He can easily sniff this out but he will usually have to sacrifice a lot to block. MOXI(E) was the normal play, but I missed 9L FIX which I like.
>Joshua_Sokol: ?ABEEFN 6J F.B +29 217
#note misread again, and Jason can respond to the setup fine. I'm losing all kinds of ground here.
>Jason_Li: AIMOOUX A6 OA.UM +11 204
#note I figured for sure he would have a hard time responding this time, even though it's pretty clear I have the X if it wasn't already. I missed 10I AXIOM which is fine.
>Joshua_Sokol: HNT B4 NTH +27 244
#note gosh, I was feeling all sorts of played here.
>Jason_Li: EIILOPX N4 PIXI. +30 234
#note At this point I should definitely play B10 OXLIP, as chances are Jason's last two plays were incredibly forced and he has no way to respond to a board-opening play. I can also just play A1 EXPO for 45, which I missed. Definitely my worst error thus far, did not see the 5, only saw OXPILE*
>Joshua_Sokol: RRRR -RRRR +0 244
>Jason_Li: EEELORS O1 ORLE +20 254
#note The bag is consonant-heavy. I decided that I should score a bit more as EES is bound to improve, and there is no need to risk a big bingo on Jason's part with LE(V)O or LO(V)E, as he has just made a play grooming his rack to the max. I should have gone for the aggression, as you will see from my draws in the next few turns. I played ORLE over LORE or ROLE so that the risk of a bingo at 1H was minimized. I can withstand something at 2H at this point, since I'm ahead.
>Joshua_Sokol: DRT 7D T..D.R +14 258
>Jason_Li: AEEELOS B10 OE +10 264
#note I'm ahead, but I think Jason has the blank. I would like to race to a bingo now, and the bag is still pretty consonant-heavy even though he probably doesn't have more than one vowel. I think I was supposed to make this play, since he's unlikely to be able to score well in the next few moves. A1 is basically my spot that only I can hit, unless Jason draws 3 vowels miraculously when I have 1/3 of the remaining vowels. It's by this logic that I played OE insteaed of OLEA, ALOE or ALEE A1.
>Joshua_Sokol: RRTU C11 TURR +10 268
#note But my play backfires for the NTH time, allowing Jason to rid himself of junk, open up the board for his blank, which would all be fine if I could just DRAW A CONSONANT!
>Jason_Li: AEELOSU D2 U.EA +17 281
#note what am I yelling about? I missed prob 496. I was extremely tilted here because I thought TURR took an E. Look, maybe I still lose, but I doubt it. 14A AUREOLES is very strong.
>Joshua_Sokol: ?EEINQR 2H ENQuIRE. +122 390
#note but yeah, this
>Jason_Li: CCELNOS H1 C.L +15 296
#note 1E CLON
>Joshua_Sokol: AGIV A1 VIGA +30 420
>Jason_Li: ACDENOS 15B DEACONS +88 384
#note He holds, and I'm just so certain TURRE* is a word. Look up the definition of TURR and tell me why TURRE* is invalid. Go ahead. I'll wait.
>Joshua_Sokol: BNORTTW L1 B.NT +18 438
>Jason_Li: HIOPS O8 .OPISH +13 397
>Jason_Li: HIOPS -- -13 384
#note TURR means MURRE. A murre is a diving bird. Also spelled MURR and TURR--- but not TURRE*. If MURR was the root word spelling, I would be fine with TURRE* being invalid. But it's not, it's MURRE.
As Jason was considering challenging, I recounted the game, since I had myself winning by 1 if he challenged, and I was damn sure it would come back valid. But not only was I wrong about TURRE*, I was also wrong about my "winning play".
>Joshua_Sokol: ORTW H11 WORT. +9 447
#note Errors this game:
-playing JEW instead of AJEE hoping he didn't have an S (how would I know, whatever)
-playing KEY expecting a different outcome than MELANO(I)D
-HOLDING MELANOID, prob 544, and not remembering whether or not it took an S, which led me to play OE to set up a good S lane when I already had a better one.
-playing ALIY(A) expecting a different outcome
-making two X-setups that backfired miserably
-missing OXLIP or even EXPO
-thinking TURRE* was valid and in thinking about why Jason would play TURR, missing AUREOLES
-playing CEL
-Emptying the bag with DEACONS unknowingly, when I definitely need to try and find a way to win; DEACONS basically always loses in the endgame
-playing DOPISH*
Scrabble is really hard sometimes. GG Jason.
