>Richard_B: FO 8H OF +10 10
>BJ: HIPRTUZ J5 PHUT +23 23
#note ZIT and TIZ sim somewhat better, but I didn't like the leave. PHUT is not far behind in valuation.
>Richard_B: AEINRST G5 ANESTRI +66 76
#note Richard spent a while working on this play, and I see why. Many choices. :)
>BJ: FIMORRZ 5C FORZ. +34 57
#note Oh I could have really used an E here for numerous good plays with the Z. I spent a while here and thought my play was strategically better than say F2 FRIZ, which leaves the H1 lane open for nice scores, but Quackle likes FRIZ somewhat better. Best, though, would have been to keep the Z and F for one more turn because there are two hot spots where they could go ... didn't really consider that, though. K4 ROM or K3 FROM are what Quackle likes.
>Richard_B: ADIV C3 VI.DA +26 102
>BJ: ABDIMRT 4A BR.M +30 87
#note Quackle likes K3 BRIM a lot and K2 ABRIM quite a lot too -- that one opens the 2J hotspot so I don't quite understand why. My play is not far back.
>Richard_B: ADMNSTY 11B DYNAM.ST +78 180
>Richard_B: EEEIRRT (challenge) +5 185
#note A good find here. I challenged and he later said he wasn't sure either but since DYNAMISM is good it seemed like it ought to be good too.
>BJ: ADIIOST 12D OI +10 97
#note I struggled here. I don't know DIOTA (K4 for 35) but could have found IOTA there or F2 DIAZO. My play is a ways downw the list after a bunch of 20+ point vowel dumps.
>Richard_B: EEEIRRT 13E RETIREE +62 247
#note Once again I'm playing catching from a deepening hole, as in my last several games. All righty then!
>BJ: ADEILST L7 DETAILS +76 173
#note Finally tiles come together. 14H DETAILS seems dangerous but Quackle likes it, and maybe it's the kind of risk I need to take when down this much. But I went the safer route instead. Didn't see B8 LADDIEST.
>Richard_B: BEWY A1 WEB.Y +45 292
>BJ: AADHLUV H11 .H.VA +45 218
#note Sims best.
>Richard_B: EX 14H .EX +56 348
>BJ: ?ADLLNU F2 LUL. +15 233
#note I was excited to pull ANULLED* until I realized it needed another N. Don't know LAUND 14B. Don't think I've ever played LOLZ or LULZ before, that was kinda fun.
>Richard_B: ?ENOQTU M3 eNQUOTE +93 441
>Richard_B: ?ENOQTU -- -93 348
#note I was pretty sure UNQUOTE was good but not ENQUOTE*, so when Richard designated the blank as an E I didn't waste much time in challenging.
>BJ: ?ADGNOS 5J .OND +14 247
#note I have "goldarns" jotted down on my scoresheet, but I convinced myself it was not good. Somehow I didn't really pay attention to lane B2 or might have seen GODDAMNS. Several others, none of which I knew: GLADDONS, GOONDAS, SONDAGE, GOADSMAN, GOLLANDS, and SLOGANED (might have guessed that one I guess). So I decided to block his lane. Kept the G instead of S on purpose, though it might not have been smart. Too often I have -ED words plus an S. One suffix or the other is good, but not both.
>Richard_B: ?ENOQTU 15E aQU.TONE +80 428
#note Richard found another nice place for his bingo instead. 15B COTQUEAN is also an option, plus UNQUOTES/UNQUOTED in row 3.
>BJ: ?AAGINS 2E A.iASING +60 307
#note I'm doing poorly on time so as soon as I find ALIASING I put it down, hoping he doesn't have a power tile, particularly the J. I should've have spent a moment longer and I might have found ABASING or GAINSAY or SANGRIA in column N. There were several others. 9C IGNATIAS for 77 was best in terms of points.
>Richard_B: JKU H1 J.UK +60 488
#note Oh dear, he had just the right tiles.
>BJ: AEEGIIN B9 AI.ING +20 327
#note I didn't quite have the energy to try very hard at this point, just wanted to play it out. Only one play scored higher anyway (1L AGEE).
>Richard_B: GO A12 GO +12 500
>BJ: ACEEELW A7 CEE +17 344
#note Richard spent a while on his previous turn so I had time to try to plan an out-in-two that he was least likely to block and that would also score some points. I see that since I hold the only A, and row 1 isn't so great for him, I'm likely to be able to play ALEW two turns from now, so I decide to keep those letters and play CEE first. Championship Player likes it too, but likes 8L EEEW slightly better, and I agree. That'll score a few more points and I can play ALEC instead of ALEW up at 1L.
>Richard_B: CEIOOPR 4K POOR +23 523
#note Quackle finds K4 COORIE for 28.
>BJ: AELW 1L ALEW +28 372
#note Richard didn't think I could go out, and so he held his I to hook onto POOR. I eventually noticed that I could also play M7 ALEW so I was in good shape to go out no matter what happened. Small victories. :)
>BJ: (ICE) +10 382
#note Richard and I have had a good string of games over the past few years, and It's always a pleasure to play him. I was glad to finish the tournament against such a worthy and friendly opponent.
Despite ending the tournament with a bunch of losses, I was overall very happy with how it went. This is my only multiday of the year, and only my third tournament of the year. Of my 15 opponents, 14 were rated higher (often much higher) and I managed to win 7 games anyway, as well as come very close in some others. Some day when my schedule allows, I'll get in more tournaments and hopefully improve at some of the weak spots I've identified while analyzing all of these games.
