#player2 Brad_W Brad W
>BJ: ADEMOTU 8G MOU +10 10
#note A rematch with Brad, he's in first place and I'm itching to play the best game against him that I can. I overlooked DOUMA and ODEUM and AUTOED here, but I like the leave that I get from MOU.
>Brad_W: AEK J6 KAE +23 23
>BJ: ADETTTV 9C VATTED +23 33
#note It's worth considering just VAT and keeping the TED, too.
>Brad_W: GOV K5 VOG +23 46
>BJ: BFMNNTT -BFMNNT +0 33
#note Barf. I kept the T, but Quackle slightly prefers keeping MT or just M. Because of the 7I hotspot I guess?
>Brad_W: ?DEFILR L6 REFILeD +89 135
#note He gets the first bingo. I'm going to get to play catchup, something I'm used to. :)
>BJ: ?CEENOT M3 CONE +20 53
#note All right, if there's one thing I'm learning from simming the games in this tournament, it's that I missed too many easy bingos. I'm a slow player to begin with so if I don't see a bingo right away I don't usually spend too much time searching. I need to be better at that. No way I should miss ACETONE here. There are several others too, many less obvious to me (eg TRECENTO or NOTECASE). At least CONE had a decent valuation. Could have put it at M5 for 6 more points, though.
>Brad_W: GLN 11J GL.N +8 143
#note Brad spent a bit of time on this one. I assume he's consonant-heavy.
>BJ: ?EEFSTT M8 EF +23 76
#note Did not know that GLEN took a T hook. Ashamed to admit that not only was I not trying to set myself up for SCONE, I didn't even think of it or see it. Note to self: PAY ATTENTION! Thought I was focused but clearly I have some serious blind spots. Well I guess that's what Quackle is for.
>Brad_W: ADGINNS E8 S.ANDING +70 213
>BJ: ?EHISTT 15C TI.HTEnS +86 162
#note I wonder if maybe my patience will pay off big, but I can't quite find a 3x3. (There isn't one anyway.) Only THEISTS at 2I scores more.
>Brad_W: AILP 12A PLAI. +22 235
>BJ: AEELQRS 15A RE........ +39 201
>BJ: AEHLQSU (challenge) +5 206
#note I decide that RETIGHTENS is highly likely to be valid. I'm right, and draw a challenge. There's a place for QAT too so perhaps keeping the Q won't come back to haunt me.
>Brad_W: BJ C11 J.B +24 259
>BJ: AEHLQSU 3H SQUEL.H +31 237
#note Once again, this could have been a different game if I hadn't totally spaced on SCONE. I remember thinking I should open up the board a bit and ditch my Q, so I decide to go for SQUELCH. I know that it takes a Y back hook but figure most players probably don't know that, so when I see that both Ys are unseen I figure if I get one maybe I'll get to take advantage.
>Brad_W: BDEIU H1 BU.IED +30 289
>BJ: AAINNRY O1 NAY +43 280
>BJ: AIIMNRT (challenge) +5 285
#note Well, there's a Y already how about that. NAY is better than RAYA because it ditches a repeat N. And as I suspected, I get +5.
>Brad_W: OOP 14B POO. +36 325
#note I nice little slot play.
>BJ: AIIMNRT A8 TRAM. +27 312
#note Quackle is telling me that I definitely shouldn't have gone for points here, I should have nurtured this very nice rack. Yeah ... I guess you have a point there.
>Brad_W: OW F9 .WO +29 354
>BJ: AEEIINS N2 A.I +18 330
#note AHI sims as a top choice.
>Brad_W: EZ 6F ZE. +33 387
#note Brad is piling up points with short words and I gotta find a way to keep up. I see C, X, W, and Y in the bag and the rest are 1-pointers. Guess I should have started nurturing that bingo rack earlier after all.
>BJ: AEEINRS 10E ..E +11 341
#note Somehow I didn't write this rack down but I'm pretty sure this is what it was. I panicked a little, thinking surely it must have a bingo that I'm just not seeing (did I mention I'm weak on even high-prob 7s?). Thankfully I didn't miss anything or I would've probably had to flog myself. Championship Player likes playing off ER, NI or AE, but my play is just behind those. I'm not quite good enough yet (nor do I play fast enough) to be able to run through all of the possibilities. So I just do my best estimate based on intuition after seeing what's left unseen. I did seriously consider putting a single letter at 8N, but it didn't seem quite that dire yet.
>Brad_W: IXY M11 .IXY +31 418
>BJ: AEINORS 8L ..R +6 347
#note Missed a bingo here, but not one I knew: SEAROBIN (a fish). Probably should know it (anagram of BARONIES) but oh well. I have to bingo to win here and there's a nice lane, so I figure if I open a second lane Brad can only block one of them. Normally I'd like to ditch the O (didn't run through the possibilities based on the bag -- no time) but can't really, since I think the best thing to do here is put a tile on 8N. An E won't work, since FEER is good and Brad almost certainly has an R. I have the only N and E, though, so FER is not bad, though it doesn't take an S, which would have been nice. So FER it is. Championship Player sees something good that I don't, also: N13 IO for 23 points. Opens the S hook nicely.
>Brad_W: AIRT N12 TIAR +31 449
#note I draw an R right back for the ERASION rack again. I gotta hope he decides to block column B, not column O. If he picks incorrectly, I think I win (though I didn't do the math and he might still be able to hang on). He spends a long while working it out. There's one tile in the bag so he has to work through 8 possible racks that I might have. We are just about the last game still going for this round and it's getting noisy. Some oblivious people are standing right next to us chattering away. Finally Brad picks his spot.
>BJ: AEINORS O5 RAINS +36 383
#note I'm over time but I search briefly in case there's some obvious thing I'm missing. Nope. I play a suboptimal play but it doesn't matter much. It's over.
>Brad_W: UW F4 WU. +15 464
>BJ: EO 2J OE +10 393
>BJ: (CO) +8 401
#note I think I did OK, and the endgame was a lot of fun. I missed a couple of obvious things but I plan to learn from that. Nice game, Brad!
