#note It's kind of amazing how Iliana and I, who play each other numerous times every Monday night at our little Upper Valley Scrabble Club, always seem to end up playing each other early on in multi-day tournaments. And I seem to have been losing those games of late, despite feeling pretty dominant at club. So despite my nice 2-0 start, I was a touch concerned that I was not going to go 3-0!
>BJ: EFIORST J2 FORTIES +79 79
#note OK, so drawing a bingo at the beginning allayed my concerns a bit, that was nice. :) I didn't know FOISTER, nor SETIFORM. But J2 FORTIES is best.
>Iliana_F: AB I6 AB. +20 36
>BJ: EIOQTWW H4 WOW +19 98
#note Exchanging definitely crossed my mind, but having the Q and I and a T and some spots for playing the Q made me think it was fine to keep it and get some points with WOW. I1 WOW sims better, more points, but I liked the other spot to leave the H1 TLS unusable for now. Didn't see 9G OWE which sims well also.
>Iliana_F: ?ENPPRT H8 .PPaRENT +86 122
#note The only bingo, good find.
>BJ: ?EEIQST 12H .EQuITES +84 182
#note Stared it this for a long time wanting something better. Can't believe I missed 15A QUIETEST, jeez. Didn't know PEQUISTE ("in Canada, a supporter of the Parti Quebecois"). Also could've bingoed with the blank as a W, an exercise left to the reader.
>Iliana_F: AAU J11 A.UA +15 137
>BJ: AEFHIJN O8 HAJI. +45 227
#note Nothing notable here besides HAJIS.
>Iliana_F: AEEGILN M8 GELA.INE +70 207
>BJ: DEFLNOS 15L F.OD +36 263
#note Nowhere for FONDLES on ENFOLDS. No P or T for PENFOLDS or TENFOLDS, nor an R for FONDLERS or FORLENDS. FEOD sims best, slightly better than FEND.
>Iliana_F: EG 14L E.G +19 226
>BJ: AELNORS K3 NEAL +23 286
#note Many options better than my choice, mostly because of leave. 9F LOPE simmed best. As soon as I hit my clock I regretted my decision because the X and the Z are still out, and I just set up a beautiful spot for them. :(
>Iliana_F: CEO I2 ECO +28 254
>BJ: EINORSZ 1D ZONERS +81 367
>BJ: IIMRSUU (challenge) +5 372
#note I drew the Z and was hoping my regret at opening that spot would end up working out after all. But, no, Iliana's nice little slotted play befouled the spot. I didn't have D for deco, but a moment later I remembered SECO ... and got an extra 5 out of it too.
>Iliana_F: ADOTY 2B TOADY +61 315
#note I was feeling really good after ZONERS + a challenge, but Iliana wasn't done yet. :)
>BJ: IIMRSUU D1 ..RI +26 398
#note Thought about this a while. Exchanging was extremely tempting, but it seemed better to block this hotspot and score some points. 3I CONIUM sims much better, but that's it.
>Iliana_F: X 11J .X +34 349
>BJ: IMOSTUU G7 U.U +12 410
#note Now, how to clean up this rack, block lanes, and score points. I pondered for a long time. Again, 3I CONIUM simmed best (didn't occur to me). UMU was the clear runner up, so I got that going for me, which is nice.
>Iliana_F: ADEGLNV -V +0 349
#note Not actually sure what her 7th tile was here. Guessed V.
>BJ: IMOORST 15A MOTORIS. +83 493
#note Lucky draw for me. I saw MOTORIST right away, mercifully.
>Iliana_F: ADDEGLN E4 DANGLED +73 422
#note She caught a fish!
>BJ: IILRTUV 13C VIRTU. +20 513
#note I wanted to block the 14F TWL from the K. Knew she couldn't bingo unless it was something crazy, so I eventually decided just to try to play out in two moves and VIRTUE had the added bonus of blocking 14F anyway. Championship player likes my choice too, yay.
>Iliana_F: EHI 14A HIE +29 451
>BJ: IKL L1 ILK +18 531
#note Forgot about the word KILD (10B). Some points from her rack and I end up with a pretty nice score and a 3-0 record after coming in pretty exhausted and not expecting much of myself. Happy.
