#note Wow, just dropping the H is that much better? 9 points fewer but around an 80% chance of a bingo vs a 51% chance. I figured I was blocking decently with this and improving my chances as a result, since many of his bingos will now play southward or extend to one end of the board and give me spots for an 8, but it's hard to argue with the numbers here. 80%! -3 I guess
>Deen_Hergott: ABEU 9I BEAU +18 51
>Joshua_Sokol: EGIILNX 10J XI +52 110
#note And this, among so many low points already, was by far the lowest point in my tournament. When I noticed what I had done I facepalmed harder than Komol did when he played CREMWEN*! I noticed he had blocked EXILING/DEE, which I was worried about, and I didn't have the typical back hook necessary to hook his play, although noticing BEAUT and BEAUS would give me somewhere to go. Had I made the right play last turn, I wouldn't have missed an 120-point play this turn. Oh, Scrabble. Never a dull moment.
>Deen_Hergott: FIT M7 FIT +19 70
#note I apologized to Deen after the game for not being able to contain my horror. I wrote OMG on my scoresheet right next to my play, but I still couldn't stop shaking my head and cupping my face in my hands.
>Joshua_Sokol: ?EFGILN L1 FINaGLE +83 193
#note this ridiculous draw added to the sense of idiocy I was experiencing.
>Deen_Hergott: EIKNOOS 9A NOOKIES +70 140
#note I wouldn't have said no to 12 more points herre, but Deen had the right idea of blowing the board open for a comeback. Still, too many points to give up at this stage and too much volatility
>Joshua_Sokol: DEENORU A8 U.DONE +24 217
#note E5 DOUR(I)NE is 32. Missed that, probably better than this.
>Deen_Hergott: ILO 1L .OIL +21 161
>Joshua_Sokol: ADEMRTU E6 MUR.ATED +72 289
#note It seemed like MURIATED gave me a chance of controlling the board, and that OUTDREAM just left everything accessible for Deen, so I chose MURIATED.
>Deen_Hergott: AQRT 3I TRA.Q +30 191
>Joshua_Sokol: EOORRUW 11C OU.ROW +9 298
#note F9 (E)WER is fine. I wanted to unload and not open anything notable. Now that MURIATED sort of zippered the board, I was not worried about a play coming down at H11 nearly as much as I would have been after OUTDREAM. But honestly this was greedy, I should score more. I got punished.
>Deen_Hergott: ALTZ H11 .ALTZ +54 245
>Joshua_Sokol: CERRSSS L9 .SERS +20 318
#note I was really annoyed at this point. I had just drawn the 3 remaining eses and I was pretty much set to win the game after missing EXILING for 118.
>Deen_Hergott: AEVV J1 VA.VE +13 258
>Joshua_Sokol: CEEEGRS 15E GEE. +14 332
#note I felt like blocking the Z had more recurrent benefit to it than blocking column D. He could just go for a Z thing and I wouldn't know if he was going for the Z or the L, it might be devastating. This way his bingos don't hurt all that much and I can focus my defensive efforts elsewhere in the next couple of turns.
>Deen_Hergott: BHO 14F BO.H +27 285
>Joshua_Sokol: ?ACERSW N4 CAWS +23 355
#note ridiculous draw of the blank, now. Gosh, I really just wanted to resign.
I have no idea how Quackle thinks Deen hits MORE bingos after this than after K8 W(AI)R. How are crazy 9s more likely than a bingo from the L? I mean in reality this is obviously more defensive than W(AI)R but apparently against a perfect opponent CAWS allows just as many bingos (the sim has evened out a bit I guess, now it's saying a bit less)...
Anyways I shouldn't be worried about the L I guess? I missed RACEW(AY) 4B, which makes the most sense I think. Scores so well and blocks the marginal D column. Or just fish with 4F W(AY). I bingo 95% of the time, I only miss if Deen somehow blocks column N, which he'll do just about never. So yeah I guess just fish the W.
>Deen_Hergott: ILP 13L .LIP +12 297
>Joshua_Sokol: ?AEGPRT C7 PR.r.GATE +78 433
#note I wasn't even 100% sure this was good, which I should have been because I've looked it up at least once. I was probably around 95% sure, and I really just hoped he would challenge it off and draw into multiple bingo spots somehow, or better, a 3x3. I literally said "I don't care, I don't deserve to win this game"
This position is actually pretty interesting, as fishing off the G gives me many 3x3 options such as PETNAPER, TARPAPER, STRAPPED, STRAPPER, PERIAPTS, PRETAPES, PRETAPED... I mean it's actually ridiculous, I only miss with the M. So I guess my comment about not caring really had some merit as this might not even be the right play.
He has no possible bingos, so he would have to block the P next turn after I play 5J (E)G(G), or maybe I should play 4F G(AY) to leave him the K2 spot for M(A)IN and distract from the impending 3x3.
I think he blocks the P pretty often though, in which case drawing an N for D1 PROTEAN, an R for PR(O)R(O)gATE again, an M for MERCAPT(O) and PR(O)T(O)NEMA (!!!), a T for PR(O)T(O)NATE (that's actually not going to happen as I don't know the word, a D and an A for TAPADERO still bingo out on him. So really, if I see and know all of these words (hopefully I would see everything except PROTONEMA and PROTONATE). That means I have an out-bingo with 6-8 tiles, and depending on the depth of Deen's attempt to solve the one-in-the-bag pre-endgame, I may very well have finished this game with a bang. The options I had here were incredible. Good thing I didn't care to play well this game after missing EXILING, I just wanted to end it all.
