>Mina: ADEENTT 8D DENTATE +70 70
#note Best play.
>Puneet_Sharma: IOY F6 YO.I +15 15
>Mina: AIMNNOR 7I IRONMAN +68 138
#note Quackle's valuation of 9I IRONMAN is 1.6 points higher than its valuation of 7I IRONMAN. Why? At first glance N is just as easy to overlap as to underlap: AN/NA, EN/NE, IN, ON/NO, UN/NU. But I forgot about NY#. However, I would argue that 9I IRONMAN makes a juicy X spot on row 10. Ooh, now I see: 7I IRONMAN sets up triple-triples that end in -ING. Is that it?
>Puneet_Sharma: EGIIORS O3 SEIG.IOR +80 95
>Mina: ACELUVZ 10F CUZ +36 174
#note I would never have considered that 6I CUZ could score one point more than 10F CUZ! It's better because it doesn't set up a 6-letter Z play on the triple. But that hook on YONI is just *begging* to be taken.
>Puneet_Sharma: ??CEHOV C3 VOuCHEd +93 188
#note Speaking of hooks that are just begging to be taken! Didn't know VOuCHeE, the top play (same spot).
>Mina: AEEILRV 2A LEAVIER +88 262
#note Third consecutive juicy hook! This is one of those situations where I'm still learning how two alternatives compare. Of course I considered both VEALIER and LEAVIER, and picked the latter so as not to put the pointy V in the triple lane. But Quackle prefers VEALIER by 0.2: surprising given how many eights start with OVER-, and given how the opponent can score well using a V in column A even without a triple-triple.
>Puneet_Sharma: ADEFM A1 F.AMED +45 233
>Mina: AIJNOXY 1G ONYX +44 306
#note Ooh, shoulda seen top play 1F YOJAN for 52 -- superior on both score and leave. Fourth-best 11K IXNAY employs a sexy hook btw.
>Puneet_Sharma: GHU D4 UGH +27 260
>Mina: AEIIJLU N9 JAI +25 331
#note Fifth-best. Best is the more defensive 10J JAILE(R) for 31 despite its bad leave of IU; it's not like my leave is great.
>Puneet_Sharma: IQ N2 QI +24 284
>Mina: EEEILOU 12L EEL +17 348
#note Ughhhh, of course, with such an abysmal leave, my play didn't make the top fifteen. 2I EUOI for 22, leaving EEL, was correct. Poorly done. (-27.8) I'd actually considered M10 LOUIE, which places third, but look how dangerous it is!
>Puneet_Sharma: DEKOOR 11G ROOKED +38 322
>Mina: AAEIIOU -AAIIOU +0 348
#note And now I lose an entire turn, as punishment for my mistake in keeping four vowels on the last move. Watch that leave, Mina, grr. Quackle still *vastly* prefers EUOI to exchanging; I find it counterintuitive that none of its top nine plays are exchanges. -19.6
>Puneet_Sharma: ALST 13L LAST +28 350
#note Telegraphing a second S.
>Mina: AEENTWW H10 ..NATE +48 396
#note Fourth-best play. Quackle prefers 6I WAWE for 30, followed by M3 WAW for 30. Another example of the trouble I have in figuring out when to sacrifice score for leave. "Quackle's supposed to help you develop an intuition for that," I'm told.
>Puneet_Sharma: PRSU 4K PURS. +26 376
#note I so did not know PR(EDENTATE)!
>Mina: EFNOTWW G13 FEW +29 425
#note Second-best after I13 WOF for the same score keeping a better leave. Oops. At least I didn't play WOW; past Mina might have.
>Puneet_Sharma: BGI 5J BIG +23 399
>Mina: INOSTUW F14 WO +33 458
#note HOLY CRAP I MISSED A BINGO, BIG MISTAKE. Sob. -50.3
>Puneet_Sharma: AABDPRT I13 PAD +35 434
>Mina: BINSTU 3G BUNT +18 476
#note Christ and then I missed O12 S(T)UB for 26.
>Puneet_Sharma: ALRT G5 TAR. +13 447
>Mina: IS 14L IS +10 486
#note And then I miss the pointiest outplay, B6 IS for 21.
Puneet went over, so the final score was 488-437.
Dear god, this game was sloppy on my side. Of my first five games this tournament, this was the worst-played, despite the fact that it was my highest score.
