>Joshua_Sokol: ?AAERTT E4 ARTEfA.T +86 105
#note REATTA(C)h doesn't give an S-hook back, but this board is going to be full of S-hooks. I sort of gave up on finding a better option, and liked that this didn't give back a play to the triple at 8A. REATTA(C)k sims best.
>Chris_Cree: EIISTTT J2 TITTIES +69 105
#note after FAG CAME TITTIES
>Joshua_Sokol: ACGHLPY D1 CAGY +36 141
#note An overload of options here at a tense, tied game. I chose one that gives way too much back to Chris, but it ended up working in my favor. 4H PA(T)CHY sims best because it doesn't open a triple word score. GAPY is the best play at D1 apparently.
>Chris_Cree: ANPSU 12A PUNAS +30 135
>Joshua_Sokol: EHLNNPT 2B NE.TH +32 173
#note This was my first and possibly only moment of dictionary confusion of the tournament. I thought ANEATH# was ours. And yet I still played this. TEN(C)H would be better if ANEATH were a word.
>Chris_Cree: III -III +0 135
>Joshua_Sokol: DFLNOPX 3I P.NFOLD +32 205
#note If ANEATH weren't a thing, I probably play FO(U)ND here, Quackle's choice, because although PINFOLD has great turnover merits, FOUND scores more and does more for my X. 13B POX is 41 points, and is perhaps also an option, but I liked keeping my X for future purposes of annoying my opponent ;-)
>Chris_Cree: ?DIIOSV C7 VISIO.eD +82 217
#note there's my X spot he so gracefully donated! How did he know?
>Joshua_Sokol: EEOOUXY A11 E.OXY +51 256
#note not even going to use the spot he gave to me because this is better, even setting up a nice spot for (X)E(D)
>Chris_Cree: ADEEIRW 5G WAI.ERED +74 291
>Joshua_Sokol: EKNOORU 1A OUN.E +27 283
#note blocking ANEATH while sacrificing points, but this still has a lot of merit besides the nonexistent hook. I keep KE for the sneaky B12 (U)KE, and KU(D)O is obviously the best play at O1.
>Chris_Cree: BII O1 BI.I +24 315
>Joshua_Sokol: BEKNORU B12 .KE +42 325
>Chris_Cree: OR 4L OR +19 334
>Joshua_Sokol: BELMORU B8 LUM +25 350
#note Figured I was far enough ahead here to not need to risk B8 BUM, but there's only one O left. I should definitely play BUM.
>Chris_Cree: AHILNR 11H RHINAL +23 357
>Joshua_Sokol: BEEORUZ 10J BO +22 372
#note Thie is really tricky. Not only is he likely to have drawn the Q, but he might have even kept it with his play of RHINAL. So I really want to play Q(I) at a minimum, and espeically QI for 64. Chris suggested B(I)Z at J10, given that I retain the last two E's. I find it hard to iterate here, but if I'm going to block the Q spot, I should set up a spot if I do draw the Q. This has great merit in that it sets up ZERO at 12J, but that is likely to be blocked. ZOE(A)E scores the most but leaves me very vulnerable in the endgame. ZEBU 10L was what I thought about afterwards, as it sets up ROQ(U)E and Q(I) for 31 as backup if I draw the Q, but Chris would have had ADJO(U)RNS throught the U! But the cherry on top is if Chris plays ADJOURNS and draws the Q, which I can block and win by 5 points at least after nickel-and-diming him by playing one tile at a time. Wow. Anyways, things just really didn't go my way in this pre-endgame, despite me making a strong play. I think B(I)Z would have won it for me.
