>Jim_Burlant: AEISSTY L8 .ESTY +34 34
#note Reasonable, but there's no reason for me to part with the E. I also considered 9K SAY but couldn't see giving up 11 points just to keep the T. This isn't horrendous per se, but it definitely opens things up that don't need to be opened. In retrospect, AYES 7H is perfectly good here. And even 9G SAY would have been better in retrospect.
>Dan_Wachtell: AAEGGP 7G GAPE +29 89
#note Dan had put down GAGA 9G before pulling it back up and playing GAPE.
>Jim_Burlant: AEEINNS F6 NAE +13 47
#note Reasonable, but I may be better off fishing 2 tiles instead of 3. A sim can't decide if this or 9H AN was the play.
>Dan_Wachtell: AGHILLN 11E ALLNIGH. +98 187
>Jim_Burlant: BEIMNST 12C MIB +18 65
#note When your tournament has been as up and down as mine was, you get iffy when the challenge grid comes into play. What's shameful is that I didn't so much as hold on this. As for my lame play: BETIME 8A and 9G BINT are the obvious plays. I saw BETIME and talked myself out of it, convincing myself it was phony. And I whiffed on BINT. Pathetic.
>Dan_Wachtell: DGIS 13B GIDS +28 215
>Jim_Burlant: EINOSTT 9A TONIEST +63 128
#note Only bingo. Up to a whopping 4.9% winning chances. Yippee.
>Dan_Wachtell: AIVV A5 VIVA. +33 248
#note Held, but released.
>Jim_Burlant: BEKLOUY 6H YOKE +55 183
#note YOK or YOKE? I thought the L had a good chance of hooking YOKE with my L and YOK was asking for it with all those unseen Es'. A sim can't decide if this or YOK is best. I'm fine with this. I've almost doubled my winning chances...which means I'm over 8% now. Woo hoo!
>Dan_Wachtell: EX 8C EX +36 284
>Jim_Burlant: BELNORU 5K BLUER +22 205
#note Trailing by 101 I was just trying to string the board open so he couldn't shut it down. If I'd bothered to look at the board, I'd have seen UNBORN H10, which scores 33.
>Dan_Wachtell: CDEO O4 C.EDO +33 317
>Jim_Burlant: AEINOPR L1 NOPA. +16 221
#note Nothing really scores here, so I'm continuing with the motif from the previous turn and stringing it wide open. What do I have to lose besides spread at this point? While BLUER was lame, I'm fine with this given the situation.
>Dan_Wachtell: AMOW 1H WOMA. +30 347
>Jim_Burlant: DEEIRRT N8 TIREDER +72 293
#note Best bingo and I'm back up to 8% winning chances.
>Dan_Wachtell: IQ E5 QI +24 371
>Jim_Burlant: ??AEORT 3G REAdO.Ts +70 363
#note Luck box!!! Took a while here because double blanks can be as much of a curse as a blessing. I was just glad I found something on this line that didn't give back easy points. Best is the sick 2F OpERATOr. I'm back in the game and up to 25% winning chances. But I'm still going to need a miracle to win.
>Dan_Wachtell: FW 13M F.W +18 389
>Jim_Burlant: AORSTUU J11 .URU +7 370
#note Looking at the pool, the J jumped out at me. The only decent "scoring" play I have is 10I TAU(S) for 18, and that doesn't help me much. I saw this and looked no further. GURU takes the bag down to 1 and sets up the S hook on row 15. His probable response if he doesn't have the J is to block cheaply. If I do draw the J, I've got JO 2F we're in a more or less even game while I have an S to work with. Quackle agrees - this is by far my best play. But I never would have imagined what was going to happen next:
>Dan_Wachtell: CDENNOR - +0 389
#note Dan put down DOWER O11, thought about it a bit...and wound up outsmarting himself. He was dangerously low on time when he pulled DOWER back up and passed his turn, thinking he was going to J-stick me. My Jedi mind tricks work again! Against my rack, Quackle indicates his only win is to block at 14I with NU for 2.
>Jim_Burlant: AILOSTU 15G OUTSAIL +80 450
>Dan_Wachtell: CDENNOR O11 DO.ER +39 428
#note This is strong, but Dan's best play is the really cool (WOMAN)NED on row 1 for 42.
>Jim_Burlant: J 6D J.. +10 460
#note OMG - how did I win this?
>Jim_Burlant: (CNN) +10 470
