>Jim_Burlant: AGILMNT 8G MATING +22 22
#note Context: Round 4. Entering this game I'm 0-3 -234, and in my last game a reasonable but albeit risky decision resulted in Orry's laying down a 203-point 3x3 on a line that I had a good reason for leaving open. I was still on the back foot entering this game, which goes a long way towards explaining why I talked myself out of a bingo I had seen before. Yes, I saw MALTING but talked myself out of it.
>Chris_Schneider: EHX 7H HEX +31 31
>Jim_Burlant: ACEHLRY 6F CHAY +30 52
#note And it doesn't help when the next bingo that shows up in your rack is one you've never seen played and, per Zyzzyva, is nearly 4000 words past any probability range you've studied. If you know words, 9B CHARLEY is the play for 84.
>Chris_Schneider: IJOS L8 .OJIS +26 57
>Jim_Burlant: ADEELOR K11 OE +10 62
#note Hmmm. Q says M11 DOE is better, and in retrospect, the duck looks to be right. That will open up an R hook. Right now I don't have a good place to put my eventual bingo, unless Chris opens up for me.
>Chris_Schneider: ?AEEGNT 5I NEGATEd +71 128
>Jim_Burlant: ADEFLRR N4 D.FERRAL +72 134
#note I'd like to say that I noticed the phony NYET*, weighed the pros and cons of challenging before making the reasoned decision to accept because (a) he floated me the E I needed for my bingo, (b) I didn't have a good means of blocking NEGATEs on row 13, and (c) when all was said and done, he still had the blank and I didn't. Naaaaaah. I just noticed the E and slapped this down. Despite having plumbed the depths of ineptitude until now, this brings me back to a 6-point lead with one blank already gone. Anything can happen from here. As for this choice - I saw the N2 placement but didn't like putting the A next to the O8 triple. The duck thinks I should play for 6 more and place the vowel at N8. Quackle notwithstanding, I'm fine with this.
>Chris_Schneider: ACENNSU 13E NUANCES +66 194
>Jim_Burlant: ALNORTU H11 LU.AR +18 152
#note Best looks to have been 4L LU(D)O. O10 TORULA looks good to chase the blank as well. While this isn't awful, it's definitely suboptimal. And this was another sequence that epitomized the tournament I was having to this point:
>Chris_Schneider: ELOOPTV 15E OVE.PLOT +64 258
>Jim_Burlant: ABKNOTT - +0 152
#note I've played Chris often enough in club and tournaments to know he's fearless about trying words he's unsure of if they're plausible. Given that, and given that I was down 106 if this was good, I felt I had to challenge. So I did. Unsuccessfully.
>Chris_Schneider: AWW O10 WAW +20 278
>Jim_Burlant: ABKNOTT 12B BATON +18 170
#note Just trying to open the board. The shock is that this is actually one of my two best plays.
>Chris_Schneider: BNO 13A NOB +22 300
>Jim_Burlant: EEIKTVZ O1 KITE. +31 201
#note Was ready to play ZIBET B10 when he blocked it. So frazzled by now - mainly angry at myself for all the mistakes - that I just autopiloted this. Yes, I missed ZED 4L.
>Chris_Schneider: DU 4L DU.. +20 320
>Jim_Burlant: EELMPVZ E8 ELEV.. +18 219
#note Just trying to open something up. This is best.
>Chris_Schneider: Q 2N Q. +22 342
>Jim_Burlant: ?IIMPTZ 8A MaIZ. +75 294
#note Or PrIZ(E). At least I get back to 5% winning chances.
>Chris_Schneider: FI F9 IF +28 370
>Jim_Burlant: ADIIPTU F2 PUDI. +16 310
>Chris_Schneider: RY B6 RY. +7 377
>Jim_Burlant: AIIORST 4D RA.IO +14 324
>Chris_Schneider: DEGIORS 2E S.ODGIER +64 441
>Chris_Schneider: DEGIORS -- -64 377
>Jim_Burlant: EIST 3A SITE +10 334
#note Plays at M12 for 25.
>Jim_Burlant: (DEGIORS) +18 352
#note A travesty that I even got this close. You can't play at a D2 level and only get 4 out of 13 plays right. And this is D1! Glad the lunch break came when it did - I was sorely in need of down time to regroup.
