#player2 Joshua Joshua Sokol
#title 2017 NSC Round 25
#description Will Anderson plays Joshua Sokol in Round 25 at the 2017 NSC
>Will: AADENTV 8D VANDA +26 26
>Joshua: ACEGHUY E5 YUG. +16 16
#note Took around 3 minutes to play this. GAUCHE, GAU(D)Y are both interesting as well. This sets up my H nicely without giving much back to Will. ACHE is a nice leave too, might hit something next turn. Around 1/4 shot at a bingo next turn.
>Will: CEEOSTT F6 TO.E +13 39
#note I think this is OK to fork, though it's a bit worrisome that I don't have any other hooks to TONE.
>Joshua: ACEHIIS D6 CA.IE +19 35
#note D2 CHIA is more standard, but I liked disrupting stuff hooking TONE and keeping a more balanced leave. This sort of sets up my H again too, and if Will doesn't have an S, I should be good. VICHIES is 30 but that leaves me way behind with a random rack. He's strong, no doubt. CHIA is fine.
>Will: ACERSTU I2 CURATES +71 110
>Joshua: DEHIISY H5 HIY. +22 57
#note Totally silly space-out on (TONE)Y for one turn. YID there is clearly the best play, especially since that C at 2I is just waiting to be paired with an H for 40 or so points. But this turn, CHIDES for 40 is not worth keeping IY.
>Will: EIJKLNR 3H J.NKIER +36 146
>Joshua: ADEEINS 11A ANISEED +77 134
>Will: ILOOQTU A7 QUOT. +42 188
#note Chosen over LOQUAT to avoid making an S hook that would annoy me later. Also, I have an I to play alongside the Q after QUOTA. Getting hit with QUOTATION (or QUOTATIVE, or QUOTABLES* and not challenging) would be bad, though, and six extra points is a lot. Think I misjudged this one.
>Joshua: ADFINTZ N2 F.ITZ +74 208
#note Will seemed a bit taken aback at this. Pucker up buttercup! I thought I would have the triple on column O next turn, there only being three A's left unseen so early.
>Will: AILORTV O6 AVO +29 217
#note Yeah, I accept that ARVO is better - I saw it, but I didn't like that Josh could score down column N with a 6-letter word afterwards, whereas after AVO that area is mostly only good for playing a bingo, which I would be a favorite to do if I could draw an E to my ILRT leave. But if I don't draw an E, that leave is kinda bad. And playing off the R means I could get an N or O for QUOTATION, which had crossed my mind earlier, but not to the extent that it should have been with TIO in hand on this move. Still, a play like HALVA retaining TIO isn't better than ARVO.
>Joshua: ADEEGNW L2 W.NDAGE +26 234
#note sort of ticked off that he had an A. I guess we both need to pucker up! :P
I missed GWINE at C9 here, which is clearly best. WA(N)NED at B9 was seen, but I couldn't be sure it was good because SWANNED seemed to be good too and Will would know for sure.
>Will: ?EILORT 12F TORtILE +69 286
#note Missing OVERLIT for 10 more. All my blank bingo practice paid off for the most part at Nationals, but I definitely found that I was missing some here or there from the types of racks that don't appear on blank bingos - racks with many more than 5 solutions. TORTILE has modest positional benefits but nowhere near 10 points worth.
>Joshua: BEEILNO H12 .OBE +18 252
#note My fatal mistake. I don't need to open the board here. There's still a chance to win without a bingo, and I already have one good lane and some other possible spots to bingo. I should have gone with B6 BINE which I initially considered, or K3 (K)OEL which I missed.
>Will: ?FLRSTW 15G F.WTRiLS +63 349
#note FELWORTS for one more point
>Joshua: AEILNNP B9 PE.NIA +28 280
#note just cooked here, hoping Will makes a big mistake.
>Will: AEILOOS K3 .OA +22 371
#note This is one gross pool, so I feel okay trying to hit another bingo down column N while Josh will probably have dreck. This also scores about as much as I can get here.
>Joshua: ILNORUX B6 XI +36 316
#note Really covering spread at this point, I'm done for despite having a shot to draw something for one turn.
>Will: EHILMOS N10 HOLME. +38 409
#note Maybe A12 MHO, continuing the theme from last turn?
>Joshua: LMNORRU 13G M.ON +23 339
#note I ran out of time, this is a really bad play and I knew it.
>Will: BDEGIPS 13A B.PED +20 429
#note I couldn't find any other out-in-two possibility, but actually, Josh can barely go out in two with his LRRU himself, so I can play BED 11J and then follow up with two more plays.
>Joshua: LRRU 13L RU. +12 351
>Will: GIS 9J GIS +17 446
>Will: (LR) +4 450
#note can't expect to win playing like I did this game. Gotta focus!
