>Diana: EEHISTY 9G HEY +32 62
>Bruce: ABRV E4 BRAV. +20 39
>Diana: EEEIOST -EEO +0 62
#note I decide to exchange here. Playing O(B)E, OE or hooking OE or hooking EE or making ETOI(L)E are all considered better choices. I think I was trying to keep bingo lanes open with EIST on my rack.
>Bruce: CD H6 C...D +8 47
>Diana: DEIOSST 9D OS +18 80
#note Q agrees this is the best play with two S tiles on my rack.
>Bruce: ADP 10H .AP +17 64
>Diana: DEISSTU K1 STUDIES +73 153
#note I don't see SU(B)EDITS or TISSUED and I wasn't 100% on MAILE so I hook with an S. It's only a one-point mistake but the real cost here will be opening the 3x3 lane.
>Bruce: INOTX 1F TOXIN. +39 103
>Diana: AAGHORT L3 HAT +25 178
#note I play HAT here instead of HAG (I11). I'm not sure why, I saw the play, I think I actually had some rationale for keeping the G over the T, it was clearly not a sound rationale.
>Bruce: NRU 2G RUN +16 119
>Diana: AGJKORT 11I KAT +28 206
#note I considered JOTA and KORA at D1. JOTA seems safe defensively looking at the game now, I'm not sure why I didn't play it. I don't know the word KORAT to play at C9. I settle on KAT, definitely not the best choice, second best, third...
>Bruce: ?ENRU 1A NEURo...... +54 173
#note Okay, I should have played JOTA. Nice find by Bruce, an 11!
>Diana: AAGJORU 12J RAJA +29 235
#note I wasn't 100% sure of the A-hook on the end of KATA so I played it safe.
>Bruce: ACF C9 CAF +19 192
>Diana: GIOSTTU 13K TOG +26 261
#note Q recommends GUSTO here but I hold on to my S and play TOG.
>Bruce: ABIR 4C RA.BI +18 210
#note This may have been played at B4... but I think I got this one right. Also, this play was undercounted by my oponent by 4, I didn't notice until now.
>Diana: EEISTUY B10 YETIS +50 311
#note Q recommends EYE (G9) for 38 but I go with YETIS for 50. Looking back, EYE makes a lot more sense defensively and with the number of unseen Es.
>Bruce: EEW 14K EWE +27 237
>Diana: ?EFGILU 15L LEG +25 336
#note I chickened out on GULFIEr (A4), for possibly the second tournament in a row and I don't know F(I)GULInE (A13) so I settle on LEG hoping to set myself up for the big play on the following turn knowing my oponent can't play there. Playing LEG also prevents an end hook on TATE.
>Bruce: IIIIOOO -IIIIOOO +0 237
>Diana: ?DEFIQU O10 FIQUEs +93 429
#note Looking back one play and forward one play, I got extremely lucky (What's the saying... I'm a luckbox) with my sequence of LEG for 25, FIQUES for 93, and ZIP for 50. There were lots of bingos I could have drawn and/or the Z or Q and I felt it could lead to big scores... and luckily it did! My only other thought with LEG is that it was more defensive than GULFIEr but still the wrong choice at the end of the day.
On the other hand, if I play GULFIEr for 81 points I could draw and hook DOZIER for 53 or NEEDIER for 79 on the end of the now available TATE but that's best-case scenario. It also doesn't leave a lot of high-scoring options for whoever draws the Q.
Needless to say, I made the wrong decision, it paid off, this doesn't normally happen, don't do this.
>Bruce: EGIMN N6 MINGE +23 260
#note My oponent plays MINGE on me, unsure if it's good or not, I don't challenge. (It's not good!)
>Diana: DDIOOPZ A8 ZIP +50 479
#note The final move in the triad of lucky plays/draws
>Bruce: ILN 8L LI.N +15 275
>Diana: DDEOOO C13 DOE +16 495
#note I don't see D(I)ODE and I'm not sure about EDDO and DODO so I opt for DOE, it's definitely not the right choice.
>Bruce: ELOR O3 ROLE +9 284
>Bruce: (DOO) +8 292
#note Recorded as 495-288
