>Deen_Hergott: ABBDEI 8D BABIED +28 28
>Joshua_Sokol: AEENNOY D8 .ONEY +20 20
#note I tried to find an underlap with YEAN and just failed to see the one at 9D. Although I prefer a more open board against Deen it might have been better to play that for 4 more points and keep things controlled. Perhaps plays like these are why I am 1-7 against Deen in the past 15 months.
>Deen_Hergott: ADEEHRS 9F ADHERES +82 110
#note It's two more points after YEAN. Quackle tells me BONEY was less than a 2-point mistake. You see where I'm getting at? No? Neither do I.
>Joshua_Sokol: AAEMNOO E11 MOA +23 43
#note There is no good play that uses up the triple word score on row 8. AEON or ANOA do not benefit the board for me in any way, and barely reduce Dean's average score by 3 points. Given that he will have to open up a couple of floaters in exchange for using the triple word score up, I see no valid reason to play there besides keeping the M for a safer rack leave. If I draw a vowel after this, I'm in a very rough spot a lot of the time. I am hoping for a timely consonant draw. I played this over OMA one spot up because, despite giving up two points, I am setting the board up to remain open for a comeback. My N hooks onto MOA, and with a bit of luck I can hit a bingo next turn. MOA ups my chances about 5% over OMA; any little bit helps.
>Deen_Hergott: AOZ 7E ZOA +34 144
>Joshua_Sokol: AAEFINO 8K FAENA +35 78
#note lucky he didn't have a better play on the triple lane. He seemingly has some sort of clunk, either vowels or vowels and clunky consonants.
>Deen_Hergott: KLOO 6G LOOK +23 167
>Joshua_Sokol: DGHIOST 14B DOGSHIT +96 174
#note It's important for me to phony here. There are a few newer -SHIT- words in the dictionary, but this isn't one of them, and was not a word before the update. I doubted this play's validity, but as usual I was not sure one way or the other.
>Deen_Hergott: ??INNQU 13G QUINiNe +123 290
#note I had thought that DOGSHIT* had left me in decent shape, but Deen had other plans for me. Although he was merciful, since QUININS doesn't allow for a big play with an S later on. But that could be advantageous for him at this stage, since he is too far ahead for that to make the difference between him winning or losing, and creating scoring spots is a good idea when you are well ahead.
>Joshua_Sokol: EILMOOU 12H MOULE +37 211
#note I am left to phony again, as the valid anagram of this word was my only reasonable option before QUINiNe, playing at 15H for 36 points. I'll take 37 instead!
>Deen_Hergott: APY 15A PAY +32 322
>Joshua_Sokol: CIJOSWX 15H SCOW +45 256
#note an incredible draw from the karma police, which allows me to forge a path towards a closer game score by having many scoring plays in my arsenal for the next couple of turns. SIX 15H leaves me with good scoring options with the J next turn, but I definitely prefer keeping both the J and the X here, as the element of surprise is important with such a huge deficit. Instead of trying to get a bingo in the next few moves on a closed board, I want Deen to try and block the rest of the lanes for less and allow me to score in the process. It's not an amazing plan, but it's definitely better than leaving the T, E and S hook on MUT open for business (even if he didn't have a good play there last turn). It's also better than trying to get a bingo within two turns.
>Deen_Hergott: ITW 7M WIT +23 345
>Joshua_Sokol: AIJNTVX 6L TAJ +58 314
#note ok, I am within striking distance now. That couldn't have gone much better!
I spent a decent amount of time debating this over 13A TAJ for 50, but upon realizing that I would be making A(DA)*, I decided that creating a bingo lane on column A was not worth the risk, as Deen might know his threes by now.
>Deen_Hergott: ER 10J ER +14 359
>Joshua_Sokol: EEINRVX H1 ENVIR. +30 344
#note Even though Dean only scored 14 points last turn, his move meant two things that sort of sucked for me. A) he probably has another R, and that's bad because B) I wanted to play (DE)X for 11 and draw an R for (TA)VERNIER. The good thing is that if I hit that fish, I would have scored 0 because VERATRINE does not have an anagram. See how silly it is to get upset over a Scrabble game? Even if my plan worked out to perfection, my plan is usually really stupid. I didn't want to play (e)X for 8 because he could just drop a U; it makes it too likely that my fish will not work out. Since ER are the two most likely tiles in Deen's leave, playing L3 VEX(T) seemed a bit dumb here, as he is almost definitely going to score at K4, and I'll be back at square one. Hopefully he hasn't kept much else and will not be able to take advantage of me opening the board.
>Deen_Hergott: CGIRU 2D CURI.G +11 370
#note hmm
>Joshua_Sokol: EFILRTX 14M FIX +30 374
#note I definitely was not happy with this here play. I pull ahead, but he can just as easily take a commanding lead by playing anything on the bottom triple. But it makes things complicated, which is what I want. LERT was a good leave to keep for a hopeful draw of a bingo through the I in ENVIRO. But if I don't draw into something good, my chances are very small, because the only remaining scoring spot on the board is very likely to be taken. 14M XI might work out better, because I have to assume he didn't have the S with CURING, so I have around a 1/6 shot at it next turn and I'll probably get another couple of shots the turn after. I might win by drawing the case S, and that is just another possibility that FIX doesn't really provide me with. But really, the increased bingo chances and tempo in the endgame that FIX gives me probably make it a better play than just XI. Another option would be to keep the X and play either 4C FIREL(I)T or (C)LIFT. FIRELIT does give me tempo in the endgame but also screws up my flexilitiy by keeping the X in a close endgame. (C)LIFT sets my X up better, and gives me shots at outscoring by drawing the S (which I now have around a 2/6 chance of drawing) as well. I think I should have played CLIFT. I knew that I didn't like FIX but it seemed like my best shot. I don't think it is. CLIFT is pretty brilliant.
>Deen_Hergott: EGINPST O12 NI.E +36 406
>Joshua_Sokol: EGLPRTT C9 PEG +24 398
#note Definitely not the draw I needed. PRE(CURING) might provide me with a better chance of winning. I didn't consider it, unfortunately, and it looks pretty good. No fish will work here, but perhaps G(OY) C13 is worth a shot, as I will be able have a better chance in the endgame if he isn't able to play 5 with one in the bag.
>Deen_Hergott: DERTV 4G D.VERT +20 426
#note I would like to divert your attention to the bingo he just blocked :(
>Joshua_Sokol: ALRSTTU J2 ST.A. +23 421
#note 3 points better than the best valid play, 3J TAUTS
>Deen_Hergott: EIL N10 LIE +7 433

#note E for Effort!
