>Jonathan_Lindh: AGHIRST 8H GRITH +26 26
#note Chicago Literacy Tournament: Game 7: Both Steve and I need to win this game to salvage our less than impressive tournament records. Sadly, I actually played this tournament fairly well but don't have the record to show for it. ARIGHT is slightly better here, but GRITH is a close 2nd. It's -2.6 but I'm happy with my choice.
>Steve_Hartsman: ?AILORS K4 SOLI.ARy +78 78
#note Steve holds and then wisely leds GRITH go. This along with DILATORS and ORBITALS were the 2x2 and were the best plays.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AENSSUW 10E UNSWEA.S +65 91
#note Best play! Almost played SUNWEARS* but kept looking and found this. Its singular plays for for 64 at I2.
>Steve_Hartsman: EOPRY 4J O.PREY +30 108
#note Nice 6 by Steve!
>Jonathan_Lindh: ADENOTW F5 WANTO.ED +64 155
#note Best play and only bingo! This was a pivotal play!
>Steve_Hartsman: AIMOORV - +0 108
#note Steve challenged unsuccessfully remembering only WANTONER for some reason.
>Jonathan_Lindh: BBEGGLQ O1 EGG. +27 182
#note Best play! Terrible post bingo racks were a problem throughout the tournament WANTONED excluded of course.
>Steve_Hartsman: FITZ M3 F.ITZ +54 162
#note It's still a game!
>Jonathan_Lindh: BBEKLQR E9 B.B +26 208
#note It's either this or QI at J7. I like this.
>Steve_Hartsman: AINNO H10 .ANION +30 192
#note Another nice 6 by Mr. Hartsman!
>Jonathan_Lindh: EHKLQRU 13G Q. +21 229
#note 5th best play! Yeah...14G HOLK is clearly the best. that QUER leave is looking mighty tasty there. My leave is okay but not great. -9.5
>Steve_Hartsman: IMNTUX 3E UNMIXT +28 220
#note 3rd cool 6 by Steve played this game.
>Jonathan_Lindh: EHKLRUY H1 KH. +30 259
#note Best play!
>Steve_Hartsman: EJ 5D JE. +26 246
>Jonathan_Lindh: EELORUY L10 .OURLY +27 286
#note Best play! Took a while to find this and almost played SORELY in the same spot but not question this is best.
>Steve_Hartsman: CTV E2 C.V.T +12 258
#note PHONY! The one blight on this game. I vaguely recall Chris Cree playing this in an annotated game and it coming back phony. Looks good, but isn't. It does take out a bingo line so I think that's why I let it go.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ACDEEER 15C CAREE.ED +62 348
#note Best play! And the finishing blow! I was generally finding my bingos this tournament.
>Steve_Hartsman: DEL 15L .ELD +24 282
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEMOOOU O11 MOOE. +9 357
#note A blank is out and this line needs to blocked. This is fine.
>Steve_Hartsman: EIPR 2B PRI.E +26 308
#note Quackle's top choice on the previous play, OHO, does block this.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AAIIOUV C13 VA. +16 373
#note These are some ugly letters. More blocking.
>Steve_Hartsman: ?ADFINT 14B T. +4 312
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?AIIOSU A13 OeS +8 381
#note Steve clearly has an E so this needs to be blocked.
>Steve_Hartsman: EFI 3A FIE +20 332
#note Time to exhale! I got to 3-4 and gained a few rating points! Sure I had fun and that's what's most important, but gaining rating points is equally important.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AAIIU N6 AA +19 400
#note I think this is best. It does leave Steve the LAND outplay but I can't do anything with my letters anyway so I take the points and get this game over with.
>Steve_Hartsman: ADLN N10 LAND +16 348
#note Best play for Steve! It turns out he also had I6 DARNEL as an outplay as well.
>Steve_Hartsman: (IIU) +6 354
#note Arguably my best played of the tourney. 3 bingos, no missed bingos, great blocking. HOLK vs. QI was really the only sizable miss and it wasn't THAT big in the scheme of things. Pretty pleased with things went even with the bad luck along the way. However one has to wonder with exactly the right play, could I have gone 6-1 (the Peter Schwartzman was in no way, shape, or form winnable)? Maybe. Stats: My average score vs. opponent's: 407-415. Record: 3-4 -57 14 bingos in 7 games for a 2 bingo a game average. 12 8 letter bingos and 2 7 letter bingos (!) 3 missed bingos: WIFELIKE, CAGOULES, and REDPOLLS. Until the Thanksgiving Day tournament in Elmhurst, see everybody later!
