>Michael_Fagen: DHORY 8D HYDRO +32 32
>Joshua_Sokol: AELLOQW D8 .ALLOW +24 24
#note Seemed like (Y)ELLOW had a better leave, but it gave more snapbacks.
>Michael_Fagen: ADIL C12 LAID +22 54
>Joshua_Sokol: DEEJQRT 14B Q. +22 46
#note When I played this, Michael showed me what appeared to be an I to taunt me. In his Ottawa tournament, he had been in a similar position with a Q. He played it off for 31 without the I, and then drew one out of the bag. This is what happened to me!.
>Michael_Fagen: AEVV 10B VA.VE +21 75
#note But then he played this, which confused me. I showed him I had just drawn an I, but then to try and out-coffeehouse him, I said that I had a bingo anyway.
>Joshua_Sokol: DEEIJRT 15A TI.DER +41 87
#note Then I played an unnecessary phony. I could have played G6 JE(R)ID, but I really thought Michael had an I. Perhaps he drew one. This was held for a minute, and Michael released, claiming his gut instinct is usually correct, and that TIDDER seemed like a word.
>Michael_Fagen: NORRRST F10 .RR +3 78
>Joshua_Sokol: AEJNOTZ 9C Z. +42 129
#note Now he's going straight for a bingo with one-point tiles. So I wondered if it was best to keep my Z to be able to better respond to his bingo, but ultimately I decided that I should not forgo the hotspot this turn and leave myself dependent upon it to keep the score close. Why not just rid myself of the Z now and leave my options more open for next turn?
>Michael_Fagen: INNORST I2 INTRONS +72 150
>Joshua_Sokol: AAEJNOT H1 JOE +34 163
>Michael_Fagen: AEGIIOU G3 GIAOU. +16 166
>Joshua_Sokol: AAEGHRT J6 HA +28 191
#note I considered the G a slight disadvantage to keep, but not 3 points worse. I was wrong. The G sucks, even with RATE. To compare, keeping ORATE yields 30 more possible bingos than keeping GRATE, and keeping URATE yields just around the same amount as GRATE does. I would not have kept the U here for 3 points. I also didn't want to open a lane, even though the position I was in sort of called for it. In the end I had a tell that Michael had the X somehow, as he looked like he already knew what he was going to play. Anyways, I should play F4 HAG and move on with my life.
>Michael_Fagen: ?EILNUX E5 NIX. +28 194
#note He had the X, and the U and E to go with it.
>Joshua_Sokol: ABEGNRT D4 GAB +18 209
#note I wanted to fish here, but RENT seemed good enough to keep, and protect my slim lead. Michael is also good at hitting bingos, and after a fish that puts the game even, I'm unsure I'm even a favourite to win if he counterfishes. Both blanks are out though, so perhaps I would draw one?
>Michael_Fagen: ?ELMSUW K6 MEWL +20 214
#note Should have fished.
K5 SMEW for 29 looks like Michael's best play. Or K3 SWUM for 3 less keeping a better leave.
>Joshua_Sokol: BCEENRT 14E REBEC +17 226
#note Here is where I start to play super paranoid. I completely missed (W)EBER though, and I think I would have played that. Ouch.
>Michael_Fagen: ?EEFOSU H13 F.U +18 232
#note My inferences are working out great, though. I was pretty sure he couldn't hit me hard. As you can see with this particular position, Michael plays a pretty fish-oriented game, but he also knows that he should block big scoring spots most of the time he can afford to. Once again, holding on to the S is not optimal here, and he should play FUS(E)E for 27.
>Joshua_Sokol: ADENNPT 11F .EPAND +18 244
#note Now I have him where I would want to have him the most. Surprised he didn't hold this dead 6. Maybe he knew the word? REPANDLY? Normally he would challenge something like this, since he's familiar with PANDERS being stand-alone. Not playing (W)ANED. He has a blank.
>Michael_Fagen: ?EEEOST 8K .EETS +27 259
>Joshua_Sokol: CINOPTU N6 CU.IN +15 259
#note Here is where this game crashes and burns. I was unable to spot UNPOETIC here, although I looked for a bit. But if he hits the S next turn, which seems extremely likely, I don't think I can recover. He'll be ahead 30 and there will be 2 tiles in the bag. So with an inference of a bingo rack, CU(T)IN might yield me better chances, although things seem grim. His rack was AEFIOS?. I don't think he would have spotted FIASCOES, but maybe so. Maybe this play saved me.
>Michael_Fagen: ?AEFIOS C3 OAF +21 280
#note MEWLED is valid. Good to know. Michael should play 10I FOE.
>Joshua_Sokol: AEOPTTU O10 OUTEAT +23 282
>Michael_Fagen: ??EEIIS L2 IvIES +17 297
#note Michael struggled with this position. He figured that he could draw outs with this play that I would have to block, but it seemed grim. We looked at the position after, but since I had forgotten that MEWLED was a word, I didn't see anything that seemed better. tIE, dIE, whatever he can play there looks best.
>Joshua_Sokol: IKMOPST J10 K.OPS +35 317
#note For some reason I failed to see that I could go out with a 4 into OUTEAT after KNOTS or KNITS. I only saw B1 POM and IMP. But yet I saw that KNOPS only left me with outs that could be blocked with one play. This made this game much closer than it needed to be. Also, REBECK is a word. I was unsure.
>Michael_Fagen: ?EGNY N12 aNY +23 320
>Joshua_Sokol: IMT M7 M.T +19 336
>Michael_Fagen: EG 13L GE.. +10 330
#note Against a top expert, this would be the tense position that would absolutely destroy me. Missing an out they had that won them the game, with only seconds to spare. MEWLED came into play again. Michael should have at least tried 10J (K)EG. But perhaps he missed the spot. Ouch.
>Michael_Fagen: (I) +2 332
#note Michael wondered why he lost this game. I hope he can learn from this annotation. I know I learned a bunch.
