#player2 Matthew_Tunnicliffe Matthew Tunnicliffe
>Joshua_Sokol: EENQUUV H4 QUEUE +48 48
#note Context: I have to win one of these games against Matthew to clinch the tournament. Since 3rd place was getting paid, I hadn't been paired against Matthew until the penultimate game. I instead played both candidates for 3rd in games 1 and 2 that morning. So did Matthew, and we both won out. So we were essentially playing for first and second twice in a row, but if I won this game, we would both be gibsonized. I felt that the previous pairings were unfair and were due to 3rd place being paid out in a 6-player division. Matthew should have gotten a chance to play me at least in game 2 of 4, and likely would have been able to stop me in that case.
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: ENNOVW 5H .NWOVEN +26 26
#note We decided to play in a separate room, since the small playing room had gotten hot and musty. And yet I was pretty nervous, so nervous that I held this for a few seconds. I'm playing Matthew Tunnicliffe here!
>Joshua_Sokol: EIJLNSV I3 JI.N +32 80
#note Twice this tournament, I was in a position where I could keep ELNS, and twice I decided not to partially because I didn't particularly like the leave. The first time, it worked out magnificently. This time, not so much. M2 JIV(E) is fine, even though it's 4 fewer than this. I shouldn't be opening the top of the board for basically the rest of the game, especially not having a D to hook onto JINN.
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: LSTY 7G L.STY +23 49
>Joshua_Sokol: AEELOSV 8K OVALS +41 121
#note And as you can see, I might have drawn into LOANEES or ENOLASE if I had played JIV(E). This turn, I missed 6F VE(EN)A, a tight fit. That looks like it's definitely correct. Although 13 points is a lot, VEENA opens nothing and retains the S with very balanced tiles, that yield me a bingo 40% of the time next turn.

But actually OVALS counterintuitively limits Matthew's scoring and bingo chances by blocking some 7s under QUEUE, but mostly by blocking the N and the E on row 5.
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: DGINOT 2I DOTING +34 83
#note I was sort of liking where this was going!
>Joshua_Sokol: AEEGMOT 1L MEAT +39 160
#note Although I didn't really want to play this word, but it was my best play, I thought. Flipflopping with MOAT on a sim, since EGO scores slightly worse but bingos slightly more than GEE. Given those numbers I am happy to take MEAT, since I'm more concerned with blocking the board than with scoring, and more concerned with bingo-ing than scoring on this board.
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: IPRU 9F PURI +23 106
>Joshua_Sokol: AEEGKOT 7M KEA +27 187
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: AEILRY L8 .IRELAY +26 132
>Joshua_Sokol: ?AEGHOT M11 TOGAE +27 214
#note Cover your eyes, cause this was the absolute worst miss of my tournament. Morris Greenberg, take notes. 11E HElOTAG(E) is something I would never miss, I thought. F8 A(P)OTHEGm, on the other hand, is tough to find.
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: AGZ N10 ZAG +40 172
>Joshua_Sokol: ?EEEEHW O12 EEEW +30 244
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: BD 9K D.B +28 200
>Joshua_Sokol: ?BEHNPR 10E PEH +21 265
#note Coming back to this game I am once again amazed at how fortunate my drawing and how good my timing was in this decisive game. Matthew could not have done anything to win this one.
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: HI 14J HI.. +18 218

>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: ?ACIOOX 11D OI +12 230
>Joshua_Sokol: ?NORRST 12D SNORTeR +73 349
#note And of course I draw a vowel at the perfect time, and this game is over.
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: CI H12 .IC +5 235

#note LMAO!!!!! This is my best play, but...
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: ?AAESTX D4 TAX +35 275
>Joshua_Sokol: AFFLNR F12 .FFA +18 402
#note -11, but I wanted to hit 400. I guess I should have just played OFF.
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: ?AES 13A SAtE +9 284
#note Matthew mistracked and decided to just go out
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: (LNR) +6 290
