Scrabble variants

What are some of your favourite Scrabble variants?

Clabbers and Anagrams are well-known, and those are both really fun, but I'm curious if anyone knows any other good ones?

While I think it's dumb, Woad Wage is fairly popular on the East Coast. Don't forget about Volost too

Phoneys. It at least has more merits than Volost. :] Also: Tag-Team, invented by Brian Galebach. Look at the 2009 Nationals agenda on the NASPA website for a link to an explanation.

Don't forget to mention that you are allowed to invoke the Galebach rule at any time

It's somewhat complicated, but I will say it involves a smack to the face on the basis of neuroticism :P

I don't really play any variants in real life.

But I really enjoy playing "blitz" on lexulous. You get the whole board to yourself, and compete with all the other players to obtain the highest score in 4 minutes.

The leagues I play in also have their own twists, some of which I dislike (playing 2 tiles at a time), while 2 vs 2 double elimination style tournament are awesome.

How about a variant that allows themed words? For example, if your using a Star Wars theme then words like Kenobi or Yoda will score double points.

I've tried implementing something like this on my scrabble app https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... e.activity

Would be interested if you think it's a good idea or if anyone would have a favorite theme!
