>Samuel_Kaplan: ?EGILRU 8B fUGLIER +68 68
#note And here's to my 1st multiday tournament in 5 years (last one was Manhattan in 2019 that I won as the top seed in D3 back when I was underrated)! I got to see some cool animals at Linvilla Orchards in Media, PA on the way here and relive some childhood memories.

This was chosen over GULfIER, GULpIER, and bULGIER in the hopes of drawing a challenge knowing this was one of the new NWL23 additions.
>Joel_Horn: EEILPRT 7G PERLITE +73 73
#note However, Joel did not fall for the trap I tried setting up. He was wise to not challenge and bingo himself. That early lead did not last very long.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AADHILO 8L OHIA +32 100
#note Looks good. Wasn't a fan of ODAH because the D helps the leave more and 9G HALOID allows bigger counterplay from Joel. I saw but didn't like how HALOIDAL* sounded despite KELOIDAL being good.
>Joel_Horn: IOOV E5 OVO.I +16 89
>Samuel_Kaplan: ACDELOO H1 COLEAD.. +36 136
#note Best play by far.
>Joel_Horn: DEIIRTU 1A DIURETI. +86 175
#note Are you serious? I get punished for making a clearly optimal play. And it was off a 4 tile draw, unlucky. Nice find by him.
>Samuel_Kaplan: BKLNOSZ 5H .ZLON +28 164
#note 4G B(E)NZOL was the play I was looking for here. Right idea to dump the Z because it's a sucky tile on this board, but the B also needed to be dumped. #findingsmall
>Joel_Horn: AFY D3 FAY +23 198
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?BEKOSU C3 OK +28 192
#note I did see the only bingo of O4 OUtB(A)KES but decided to purposely pass it up as I felt there were going to be enough floaters to use to bingo next turn. I can bingo with SUB- words fairly often with my blank, and the sim does favor not bingoing here. Seems like a good call.
>Joel_Horn: AIN 7A AIN +8 206
#note I guess he tried blocking more after my apparent fish, which could explain why he sacrificed 6 points by not doing 4J ANI.
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?BCDESU M1 CUBES +33 225
#note I saw O8 ABDUCERS* which I gladly passed up because Joel told me he would have challenged. It's only ADDUCERS. CUDBEARS is the phonygram of ABDUCERS* which I did not know. But either way, N3 (O)BSCUrED is gettable and was missed. This game turned sour starting with the next draw.
>Joel_Horn: AAI 1L A.AI +21 227
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?DDEQRW 2L W.D +25 250
#note 1 letter off from doing 2J QuE(U)ED which would have been nice.
>Joel_Horn: BEMORST O4 BROM.TES +65 292
#note Ugh
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?DEGPQR N10 PEG +24 274
#note Looks ok, 24 is too many to pass up to exchange.
>Joel_Horn: ANTW 12J TWAN. +18 310
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?DQRTVX -DQRVX +0 274
#note Yep, see what I mean when I implied that this game got away from me after I didn't find a bingo? Now I really need to bingo and to increase my odds of doing that, the X needed to go.
>Joel_Horn: EM J10 ME. +11 321
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?EOTTUY 11H TY.E +24 298
#note 11I YEET is 2 more and I won't necessarily get a 7 down as often as I thought apparently. D8 GOUTY wasn't happening as that actually limits the 7s that could play on Row 13.
>Joel_Horn: EGHN H11 .HEGN +39 360
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AORTUX 13L XU +31 329
#note Looks good. But I can't expect the lanes in THEGN to stay open for long.
>Joel_Horn: IJS 14F JI.S +28 388
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AORRTV G7 ..R +6 335
#note So Joel's last play of JIGS instead of JIG could mean either he kept duplicate Ss or he was trying to block more bingoes using the N in THEGN. The only path to victory I saw was drawing the S and him not seeing 12A TOVARiS(H). I was unfortunately low on time by the time I found this potential sequence and realized he was going to be Q-stuck if I just play off 1 tile and avoid drawing it myself.
>Joel_Horn: ADENNQS 14L ENS +19 407
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?AFORTV 15N OF +17 352
#note This should have been played at 2A. #visionbad
>Joel_Horn: ADNQ 6A AD +16 423
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?ARTV J2 VAi. +14 366
>Joel_Horn: NQ 5D ..N +6 429
>Samuel_Kaplan: RT L7 ..RT +4 370
#note K4 T(O)R(I) is 1 more. Good move to pass up OUTBAKES, but after not seeing OBSCURED at a minimum, those draws were just not good and that turn was where the wheels fell off. Not only that, I could not slow play him knowing he was Q-stuck because I ended up going 55 seconds overtime. I wonder how often someone draws both blanks AND the opponent is Q-stuck but still can't win (even though this one was winnable)? Final score was recorded as 429-380.

0-1 -49. Not the start I wanted. But things do get better.
