>Andy_H: AINORST 8G RATIONS +66 66
>Carl: AACIILS 7L AI +8 8
#note I thought this was better than AALII because the leave was more bingo prone and it also doesn't take out so many lanes. AALII actually wins the sim by 3. Now, given what you've seen so far, what are the chances I draw another I?
>Andy_H: CDEEOO N2 COOEED +26 92
>Carl: ACIILST 6F ITALICS +66 74
#note A surprising miss; I didn't see CILIATES or SILICATE. (-4.5) Like I said, my game is full of holes, whether due to fatigue, rustiness, insomnia, advancing age, what have you.
>Andy_H: RVW 4L VR.W +28 120
>Carl: ?AEEEFW O6 FEW +37 111
>Andy_H: AXZ 5H ZAX +41 161
>Carl: ?AEEMQT 5D QAT +26 137
>Andy_H: JKO 2L JO.K +17 178
>Carl: ?EEILMO 9L EMO +20 157
#note I couldn't decide between this or MOI 6B, but guessed right. O1 OK also does surprisingly well. One play that I saw but agonizingly forewent was aMELIORATIONS 8A. Like I said, the Scrabble was pretty surreal today for ol' Carl.
>Andy_H: EM 10N ME +20 198
>Carl: ?EEILNT 10F LENITEs +64 221
#note ALIENATE H8 wins the sim. I saw it, but didn't want to leave floaters all over the place like an incontinent chowhound. (-3?)
>Andy_H: DEORTU D2 TOR.UED +38 236
>Carl: BFGGIIY 3C F.GGY +34 255
#note I figured that with only a few more Is left to draw, it was worth it to take the points. Nah, BIGGY C7 wins the sim. (-2.5)
>Andy_H: EPRT C7 PERT +20 256
>Carl: ABDIILS 2B BI. +15 270
#note Quackle really doesn't like this play. Consider that 11J ID keeps a similar leave and also sets up a bingo lane for next turn. I also missed M1 DOBRA, and 8A DIED, both of which are clearly better. (-6)
>Andy_H: BDINU B10 UNBID +24 280
>Carl: ADILNSV 13B .NVALIDS +78 348
>Andy_H: ?AGNRSU 14I oURANGS +69 349
>Carl: EELNORY 15E ONERY +29 377
#note *Another* fiendish pre-endgame with Andy. ONERY looks alright, but I was too hung up on HUSH/PUSH and didn't see EPHAH A6. (Always look for a better play!) ONERY does well against HUSH/PUSH; I'll nearly always have an out, notably ALANE/ALINE/ALONE M11. Unfortunately, if I have any of these outplays, Andy has EPHAH, and I'll lose. Thus, an argument can be made for LORY A1, taking the points and hoping for the best. Championship player goes for LORY, but the regular sim says that ONERY wins more often, specifically if E, H or P is in the bag. Also, EPHAH sometimes loses to ONERY; for instance, if AO is in the bag then there's ALOE B5. How in the heck do you get good at this stuff?
>Andy_H: AAEHHPU O12 HU.H +42 391
#note There's only one winning play here for Andy, and it isn't EPHAH A6. In that case, I'll have LIE B6, which salvages a tie. Can you find the winning move for Andy?
>Carl: EILO D11 LI.E +14 391
#note I hadn't actually done the math and was pleasantly surprised to see that this tied. I figured I was sunk, and was just trying to find the best sequence. What a great endgame this was!
>Andy_H: AAEP 13K APE +20 411
>Carl: O O1 O. +18 409
#note Continuing the surrealism of Day 4, I get my *second* tie, which is extremely rare in Scrabble. However, it should be noted that at SWILLLNS 2023, just one month prior, Andy had three ties in 18 rounds.
>Carl: (A) +2 411
