>David_Engelhardt: ABIO 8H OBIA +12 12
#note I didn't know it at the time, but I had clinched the tourney already. A game and 500+ spread points ahead of 2nd. Feeling really good about performance so far, gotten over game 4 by this point.
>Zach_Ansell: ANNORTU K7 T.UON +10 10
#note I don't like OUTRAN here, nor do I know TURNON, but missing TUNA F7/9 is just really bad. It's not a value question; the plays are relatively similar, but I should've seen it especially given I spent ~2 mins looking for stuff.
>David_Engelhardt: AKLW J10 WALK +34 46
>Zach_Ansell: AEINORV 13J .IVA +22 32
>David_Engelhardt: IIIIIII -IIIIIII +0 46
>Zach_Ansell: AENOPRT L1 PRONATE +76 108
>David_Engelhardt: HRRUY 2J HU.RY +38 84
>Zach_Ansell: DDEEEOT I2 DEED +20 128
#note First of 2 phonies this game, tbf thought it was good (DHURRIES->DHURRIE), but not even a good play. (R)EEDED is obviously the best but a hard one to see, so I'll forgive myself there, but Quackle says stuff like EDDO or DEE to take the triple is just better, and I'm inclined to agree, especially against a weaker opponent.
>David_Engelhardt: IJL 5K J.IL +22 106
>Zach_Ansell: AEELOTZ 9G ZEE +30 158
#note A lot of similarly-simming plays here. Don't like TEAZLE(D) or AZOTE(D) because opponent is hinting bingoable tiles, but (P)EAL worth considering, which I did not see. I think it's fine overall.
>David_Engelhardt: ITY L11 TI.Y +23 129
>Zach_Ansell: AELOTUX 1N OX +32 190
>David_Engelhardt: BFI H4 FIB +24 153
>Zach_Ansell: AAEGLTU 10D ALGA +20 210
#note Found the right spot, but sim prefers TEGULA by a surprisingly large amount. Didn't want to set out too many floaters, but sim must know something I'm not seeing; TEGULA well ahead of other similarly-valued plays like TEGUA and ALGA here.
>David_Engelhardt: ?EEINRT D7 RET.INEd +66 219
>Zach_Ansell: CEFGOTU 4C ETOUF.. +26 236
#note Missed FUCO(ID). Didn't see anything I particularly liked, so I took a chance with the second phony of this game. I know ETOUFFEE from studying 5-vowel 8s, and I thought there was a reasonable chance it was good. As with DHURRY, not even a hold. Have I gotten to the point where people think I know words? Maybe just strong performance in this tournament so far intimidated lower rated opponent.
>David_Engelhardt: AMNW 5C MAWN +36 255
>Zach_Ansell: ?CGLOST 3A COG +24 260
#note Didn't know GLOST, didn't like CLOGS but prob better in hindsight. O column still super volatile and I wanted to not lose to a bingo shutting down the entire board.
>David_Engelhardt: HI A1 HI. +24 279
>Zach_Ansell: ?ALNQST C11 QAT +41 301
#note Mistake here, still in the bingo mindset. I think Q was the last tile I turned over. QATS n10 sims way better and is definitely better in hindsight. Need to remind myself each turn is a new game.
>David_Engelhardt: EEEI -EEEI +0 279
>Zach_Ansell: ?AEILNS O3 LESbIAN +83 384
>David_Engelhardt: CIP 8A PIC. +24 303
>Zach_Ansell: DEMNSSV 14F VENDS +33 417
#note saw 1-2 bingo possibilities for him, but nothing that wins even if optimal tile placement. V(I)MS plays it safe, but this outruns anything. Plus I wasn't too confident that opponent would know/see any of the ones I saw, and the ones I didnt were even more obscure. Earlier in tournament, maybe a mistake, but idrc cause its the last game.
>David_Engelhardt: DEEGRSU H12 GE.U +21 324
>Zach_Ansell: MOORRS N10 MOOS +24 441
#note MORROS is apparently good
>David_Engelhardt: DERS 1A .ERDS +11 335
>David_Engelhardt: (RR) +4 339
#note Thus concludes the tournament. I finished 6-1 +949 in a moderately difficult field, putting myself above 1800 for the first time. I do think I got really lucky in a lot of the games, but no huge mistakes. Endgame of game 4 vs Jay Levin will be a thorn in my side, but I played pretty well for my own standards. Sadly, my dad didn't perform as well in d3, but this was a good opportunity to meet up with him and play some Scrabble.
