>John_Stardom: IIIIIII -II +0 0
>Arie_Sinke: DDEELPV 8G DELVED +26 26
#note It's this or the other position of DELVED; playing into the south and east corners of the board is more defensive so I went for this one.
>John_Stardom: CDINZ H4 ZINC.D +28 28
>Arie_Sinke: DHOPRSY K5 HYP.D +28 54
#note Sad that I can't play HYDROPS. For two more points and a comparable leave, HYPOED and HYPOID look a smidgeon better; the sim has them very close, which is an interesting statement on the relative values of ORS and RS as leaves. I'm not sure I even knew HYPOID or HYPOED.
>John_Stardom: AOT L4 TAO +16 44
>Arie_Sinke: INOORRS M3 ROO +14 68
#note No great options, this looks fine; better than ORZO for 13.
>John_Stardom: ?EOQSTU 6A QUESTiO. +68 112
>Arie_Sinke: AEINRSV J8 .ERVAINS +71 139
#note Only bingo.
>John_Stardom: AEFTY 15J .AFETY +48 160
>Arie_Sinke: AAIIOOP -AIIOO +0 139
#note I kept AP to ensure vowel/consonant balance. Sim suggests exchanging all 7 or playing PATIO E4, but it's close. I think exchanging is called for here.
>John_Stardom: EFLRX C2 REFL.X +48 208
>Arie_Sinke: ABHPRTT A6 .AT +36 175
#note With three Us out, playing BIRTH now and hoping to get QAT next time was less appealing. Sim agrees that I should take the 36 points with QAT right away.
>John_Stardom: INUW E2 UNWI. +16 224
>Arie_Sinke: BHNPRRT 13I B.RTH +26 201
#note This looks fine.
>John_Stardom: ALNOS I2 LOANS +36 260
>Arie_Sinke: GIMNPRT J1 PING +28 229
#note I played way too fast here - didn't see the possibility of GIMP and IMP in the same spot to score a few more points and keep marginally better leaves. Also available is YOMP 6K, which is a bit aggressive for me but may be more reasonable with a deficit? I like GIMP and so does the sim.
>John_Stardom: GIKNO 1J .OKING +54 314
>Arie_Sinke: ABCGMRT B1 GAB +20 249
#note Unappealing but everything else is also unappealing. The pool is vowel heavy, though, which works well with my leave. This is probably best.
>John_Stardom: AE D3 AE +28 342
>Arie_Sinke: CELMMRT F1 MM +22 271
#note This is best; and with 14 vowels unseen compared to two consonants, CELRT is a pretty strong leave.
>John_Stardom: EEIIOOU -EIIOOU +0 342
>Arie_Sinke: ACELRTU D6 .ULCATE +29 300
#note I reasoned that I was unlikely to win with a bingo unless I scored enough to get within a reasonable range, so I preferred this play to any of the one and two tile fishes that are available. The problem with this play is that I am drawing into an extremely vowel heavy pool, and I'm unlikely to draw any bingo unless I hit both the S and the blank. A sim to the end of the game suggests CURVE 11G, which makes a lot of sense; I keep two consonants and can probably bingo if I get a blank and three vowels, for instance. CURVE scores enough that bingoing gives me a realistic change of ending up ahead. This play isn't a significant improvement over the many one and two tile fishes available - I think after those plays I have to hope to bingo and then luck into a good scoring play with the J to go out.
>John_Stardom: EIW 11J .IEW +20 362
>Arie_Sinke: ?EEIIOR 9H .I.. +10 310
#note There is no way for me to win this game with optimal play from both sides. I may be more likely to steal a win by playing DE G8 instead, fishing off the E instead of the I. After DE, John would have to recognize that I have GRImOIRE O1 for 74 as my highest scoring bingo and block it with something like AJIES N7. I could also play bIO(SAFETY) if I knew that word to cut a bit of spread.
>John_Stardom: AEIJOSU 10B JI.O +27 389
>Arie_Sinke: ?EEIORR 14C ERIgERO. +61 371
#note Only bingo. Both VERVAINS and ERIGERON are wildflowers, which is a fun but irrelevant fact.
>Arie_Sinke: (AESU) +8 379
