#note wish I would have seen vERBENA 9A, I like that.
>Rafi_Stern: ADEGILT 3B DELATI.G +76 102
>Joshua_Sokol: CDEFPST E2 F.CT +18 98
#note F(A)CED sims a tad better. I understand, but I like this a bit more to keep the vowel.

>Rafi_Stern: AAACGSU 6E AGA. +19 141
>Joshua_Sokol: ?AINNRR 13B IN.NAReR +68 238
#note (B)RANNIIeR sims a tad better, but it's not correct here, Rafi's range doesn't contain scoring tiles, more like kind of weak bingo tiles, so best to play IN(S)NAReR, minimize creation of floaters for Rafi to play through, and set myself up to hopefully score next turn on the triple.
>Rafi_Stern: AACIQSU B10 QUA.S +68 209
#note BRANNIER would have yielded AC(E)QUIAS!
>Joshua_Sokol: INNSTTY H12 Y.TI +30 268
#note I unfortunately missed NIN(E)TY here, which is the best play. I played this over Y(E)TT even though it was worse on equity, since Rafi could then make specific fishes that hit both the T on H1 and the T on 15H. Quackle has no way to calculate the value of that, but in many scenarios it can mean the game if he is able to do this.

#note I really liked this play, and I saw it pretty quickly but took the time to consider fishing the V as well. Although it's true that this cuts the board's circulation massively, and even in the long term, this does well to keep things tight and difficult to work with, but it probably comes at too much of a cost. F1 VE(TO) sims best, followed by V(AR) and exchange V. I don't think this is an inferior play, but I think it was probably too much to chew on for the finals of the Crescent City Cup.
>Rafi_Stern: CEIINUW -IUW +0 263
>Joshua_Sokol: DEELMOR J10 DE +22 345
#note I considered something like 2A DOM to keep scoring and leave things as they were, but I decided this was good. Most everything he could play from column K hooking the E either don't score well or don't hook onto column L. He would need to have an F, M to score decently while creating a new lane. I was therefore confident I could control the board, especially considering his range doesn't really have any heavy tiles in it anyway. Boy was I wrong. Just play DOM 2A, I was worried it might be too little to withstand a late bingo from Rafi down the line to be ahead 80 with how the board would possibly develop in his favour.
>Rafi_Stern: CEEFHIN K11 FICHE +36 299
>Joshua_Sokol: ELLMOOR 14K .OLLO +16 361
#note I was shellshocked at what had happened. FICHE was like the worst thing that could have happened barring a bingo. But even after a bingo, I would know how to proceed. Now I was stuck in a zugzwang of sorts, with no way to score well and no way to block efficiently and maintain a large enough lead that I would withstand a bingo. I have yet to have been suggested any other moves here that I can really accept as clearly superior to this. I'm giving him one chance. If he has an X-bomb, good, the game will be close, but otherwise I'm probably going to be able to hang on. His range doesn't really contain an X anyway. Quackle says this is a 6-point mistake over J14 OM. But OM just loses to Rafi's tactics. I can't stop him from getting a bingo down. I need to power through this game, I can't middle my way to victory. That was how I felt. Was I wrong?
>Rafi_Stern: EINOUWX 15N OX +56 355
#note apparently. But now at least I've made him do something forced.
>Joshua_Sokol: ADEMPRU M9 DRUPE. +22 383
#note time to push matters.
>Rafi_Stern: EINRUUW B1 WU. +14 369
>Joshua_Sokol: AEGMSTZ L6 GAZE +27 410
#note I have never been happier to draw two case tiles in my life. The S, yes, obviously, but the Z was just so welcoming. I empty the bag because I can't survive a bingo but he probably has the last U or a more specific rack, so VIBRION isn't really a threat. Just cross my fingers now and hope I did something right this game. This sims best.
>Rafi_Stern: BEINRUV M3 BRUIN +22 391
#note BURNIE which was suggested on stream blocks everything but gets V stuck so it's almost worse.
>Joshua_Sokol: EIMMOST 1A S.IM +36 446
#note but obviously I was way too nervous to even think about TOTEMISM, and I'd have to be 100% sure of it to play it, otherwise I risk losing. Take the win, hope Jackson or Joey didn't win by a ton to overtake me. However if would have been cool to end in style and I wish I had, now. But maybe TO(t)EMISM for 62 would have been the troll thing to do, like when you underpromote* a pawn in chess, but this is all fantasy at this point. Reality was much nicer. Great game, Rafi, thanks for being such a good opponent and sport while I drew very good tiles.
