#player2 Michael_Fagen Michael Fagen
>Jim_Burlant: JNNNOOV -JNNOOV +0 0
#note Yuck. I kept the N for two reasons. First, N is one of the building blocks of SATINE/RETINA/etc.. Secondly, with three in my rack, drawing another one is less likely than my drawing an S. Amazingly enough, I actually got this right! The duck confirms it's either this or exchange 5 keeping NO.
>Michael_Fagen: AEGLSTU 8B TEGULAS +70 70
#note I held this, but this was the right time for Michael to put a phony down. This whole morning, my challenge grid had hemorrhaged red and anything other than CAT or DOG was making me think twice. It rang a bell taht TEGULA used to not be plural, so being unsure, I let this go. Too bad, because I should have swatted this off. It's TEGULAE that's good, not TEGULAS.
>Jim_Burlant: ?EKLNNV F5 KVE.L +20 20
#note Sad but true: whiffed on KNAVE G6, which is clearly best. Other options that look good are VAN/NAV G7.
>Michael_Fagen: BEEFIOR -5 +0 70
>Jim_Burlant: ?BCNNRT 7E N.B +17 37
#note At least I got this right. 41.5% to win.
>Michael_Fagen: AO 5E O.A +14 84
>Jim_Burlant: ?CINNRT C7 C.NTRINg +76 113
#note Best bingo. Other options include INCENTER, INTRENCH down the C column.
>Michael_Fagen: EMW 4C MEW +21 105
>Jim_Burlant: CIIORTT 3D OTIC +17 130
#note It's either this or 3D OTITIC, and I didn't like giving back plays like REIF or SEIF. For him to score big at 2F, he has to have the Q or X.
>Michael_Fagen: Q F2 Q. +31 136
>Jim_Burlant: ?AINORT H8 .TRONtIA +74 204
#note Best bingo. 79% to win.
>Michael_Fagen: AESSY B2 ESSAY +41 177
#note Michael took a long time on this turn, and later on it became clear why: unbeknownst to me, the third S was still in the bag. This looks like the play he has to make, but he burns all the ammunition in the process. Tough choice for Michael, for sure.
>Jim_Burlant: EFHILMO A1 HM +25 229
#note Right idea, wrong execution. MHO A1 scores 31 to this play's 25. Having said that, the best play here is utterly sick: OSMOTIC 3A scores 34!
>Michael_Fagen: DEIW 11B W.IED +18 195
>Jim_Burlant: AEFILOS 12E FOI. +15 244
#note Right idea, wrong location. FEAR scores 31 at 10E. This balances the rack a lot better, but I should be looking to score and not groom the rack. Still in good shape at just shy of 84%.
>Michael_Fagen: DDER 14F DR.ED +15 210
>Jim_Burlant: AEJLOPS 10A JO. +19 263
#note Now I play the cat-and-mouse game. I'm sitting on an incredibly potent combo, and the only bingo line available is the J column, which will most likely score 60. I'm fine with dinking off for 19 and adding to my lead while he doesn't get anywhere. Quackle wants me to play RAJ 10H; that seems like giving him a lifeline. This is next best and I'm fine with it.
>Michael_Fagen: AEHORRZ -6 +0 210
>Jim_Burlant: AELNPSV D2 V.. +6 269
#note I thought CENTRING was an alternative spelling of the verb CENTERING. If I knew it took an S, I'd have scored 34 with VASE. If you don't know that hook, this is reasonable given the situation.
>Michael_Fagen: AOZ A5 ZOA +28 238
>Jim_Burlant: AELNPSX I14 .X +18 287
#note Any of my top 6 options win within 1/2% and sim within 3 points of each other. Q gives slight prefernce to AXEL in the same location, but this is also a very strong play.
>Michael_Fagen: ADITU 13J AUDIT +15 253
>Jim_Burlant: AELNPPS 10G P.EPLANS +70 357
#note Only bingo. 98% to win.
>Michael_Fagen: UU K9 U.U +6 259
>Jim_Burlant: AEEGIIR M6 REGI.A +9 366
#note Anything is as good as anything here. I just didn't want to be weighted down with a vowel overload entering the end game, just in case I had to block threats. That said, 11J AUREI might have been better.
>Michael_Fagen: OY 8M .OY +21 280
>Jim_Burlant: BEFGHIR 6K HE.B +15 381
#note Blocking ALIENER and anything I might have missed down the O column.
>Michael_Fagen: AEEINRT 5I TIER +20 300
>Jim_Burlant: EFGILOR 4K FORGE +35 416
>Michael_Fagen: AEN 14L ANE +15 315
>Michael_Fagen: (IL) +4 319
