#note not sure why Jackson opened vertically and I opened horizontally in our other game.

Jackson: cause aiyee came down quickly once you saw it, and there still lives a zontie inside you

Josh: once again PAI is not as good as I think it is (see previous game vs. Jackson) and I should have just played PURI
>Jackson_Smylie: AFMORUY I9 FRAY +29 59
#note PURI.

Jackson: setting up my M. looks about as good or better than most other options
>Joshua_Sokol: AINOPRS 7F PI.NORAS +64 87
#note Jackson asked me if he thought people should be allowed to do things specifically to put their opponent on tilt after this play.

I wondered what he meant, but said we'll talk about it after the game.

So for the nth time, I missed the 7 in this rack after looking for a long time. And I missed PONIAR(D)S. And I played this confidently.

PIGNORA does not take an S!!!!

This could have spelled disaster. If he challenges this off I think I would not have won the tournament.

Jackson: (referring to the tilt comment) Josh could have done the same to me
>Jackson_Smylie: GIKMOTU 8L GOUT +28 87
#note Jackson's two last plays were extremely thoughtful.

>Joshua_Sokol: ACEEILV 15B CAVELI.E +71 234
#note surprised I saw this after a couple of minutes of not even looking for a bingo.
>Jackson_Smylie: DGINOOT - +0 169
#note Understood Jackson's choice to challenge here even though this is pretty clearly a word. He's not in good shape. I also think he didn't see DOTING on his rack until after my next play.

Jackson: Yeah, I was missing all my decent options until a few minutes after challenging. this was probably my worst challenge of the tournament.

>Joshua_Sokol: ?EFIQTU 10M .F +13 247
#note ridiculous draw, ridiculously strong fish. I played this mostly to make Jackson agonize and throw him off, although it might be optimal too.

Jackson: smart play by josh. FE and FIQUE are also very interesting - I would play FIQUE in a game situation given the lead, but I'm not convinced it's right.
>Jackson_Smylie: DGINOOT L10 DOTING +35 204
>Joshua_Sokol: ?AEIQTU D2 rEA.QUIT +88 335
>Joshua_Sokol: ?AEIQTU -- -88 247
#note And yet I still manage to fuck it up. I was very confident that this was a word. Why?

Jackson took most of his time in this game debating whether or not to challenge my two last plays.
>Jackson_Smylie: AIMOORT D1 TORI. +16 220
#note This position is ridiculously complicated.

Jackson has perfect rack information. So he first has to find all of my candidate plays. Those are O1 EQUItAN(T), C8 TAQUEri(A), 8A cAIQUE.

Next he has to assess what plays I am likely to see next turn. He will see that I must have missed EQUITANT last turn, so he has to hope I miss it again. My other options score far too much for him to sacrifice points and leave value to block my highest scoring option.

Perhaps he should also assume that I miss cAIQUE. That line would then make B10 OOMIA(C) a strong contender, as cAIQUE would really screw up anything OOMIA(C) accomplishes.

If he assumes that I see TAQUERIA and CAIQUE, he should probably block both with 8D MOO. If he doesn't want to assume that I miss a play, he should play OOMIA(C).

He smartly goes for a diversion. He really wants to hit a triple-triple here, which is very unlikely, but he also would be OK with me blocking the triple-triple and subsequently hoping he can hit two bingos while I whiff. MORA(L) is the only similar play, and it really isn't better for Jackson as my triple-triple blocks (U(M)IAQ or (M)AQUI score more and do bad things to the board than my blocks after TORI(C).

So TORI(C) seems like the best play that doesn't desperately try to block me. OOMIA(C) probably wouldn't have worked out, and 8D MOO might have given Jackson a better chance.

Jackson: TORIC doesn't even show up when you ask quackle to generate 50 choices. I could have spent all day on this position. Once I was pretty sure I wasn't giving up a triple triple, I played this, cause it feels kind of necessary. I didn't see taqueria, but I did see cAIQUE and AQUaTI(C), so I'm thinking I need a triple triple or at least a threat of one and a crazy good draw.
>Joshua_Sokol: ?AEIQTU C8 TAQUErI. +84 331
#note still missing EQUITANT.

Felt I wasn't ahead enough to be comfortable blocking the 3x3 and scoring 40 fewer than I normally would with a leave that might go sour drawing into all of those A's and E's.

This might have been a terrible mistake, but I think this is the right attitude.
>Jackson_Smylie: AAIMOOW K11 MAW +35 255
#note Jackson is too far behind to rely on one bingo to win, realistically speaking. It's better to go for two bingos with 14G A(L)OW.

Jackson: Yeah seems like a good idea. unless I can draw JO(T)A and a big bingo, MAW doesn't do too well. I need a bingo now.
>Joshua_Sokol: AAEEERR 1A ARE.E +15 346
>Jackson_Smylie: ADINOOU 8A OU.DO +24 279
>Joshua_Sokol: ?AEORSY B1 .OSARY +34 380
#note Ridiculous draw of the other blank.

Shoot, didn't know ROSERY was good too. That's better. Fewer A's to duplicate and the A is a much better scoring tile than the E here. And I need to score.
>Jackson_Smylie: AEEIJNS 12A JE.S +38 317
#note now he has to go for the one bingo razzle-dazzle.

Jackson: no idea what I can actually draw, but if he blocks the T and I x-stick him with a bingo on the 2 row.....

Champ prefers AJEE or JEAN in the same spot, presumably because those will also win with an X stick bingo (or another big stick)... makes sense.
>Joshua_Sokol: ?ELNNTX 4H .aXEN +30 410
#note really sloppy, lazy, unenlightened pre-endgame for me. I should fish with J6 (HO)N apparently. EXULTANT is nice.
>Jackson_Smylie: ABBEEIN 3I BANE +30 347
>Joshua_Sokol: HLNT A7 H.LT +7 417
