#player1 Mike Mike
#player2 Joshua_Sokol Joshua Sokol
>Mike: DFIKMRX 8G FIX +26 26
#note Sim puts MIRK 8F on a par with this, but as against Mike Baron three rounds ago, I don't think it's likely to work.
>Joshua_Sokol: AEIOSTU 9G ETUI +24 24
#note I like to close the board on Mike. He's scary on an open board. I think this play is therefore a bit better than AUTO or OUTA at J6. Although it will be tough to keep it closed. Really just trying to cut his scoring to a minimum.
>Mike: DHKMRRW -DHKMRW +0 26
#note Quackle wants me to play through with HM 10F...no. We've been over this, duck. Of the exchanges, keeping DR comes out on top, which...sure.
>Joshua_Sokol: ADDEIOS 10J DADO +17 41
#note This was odd. I didn't want to fish, and didn't want to set up a huge S spot. I thought there was validity in acting like my rack was less strong than it really was. And I didn't want to be super aggressive.
>Mike: AELNRRT 11K LARN +17 43
>Joshua_Sokol: EIKRRSS O9 RISKERS +103 144
#note DADO definitely worked out extremely well. Lucky!
>Mike: AEEGRTZ 10D GAZE +40 83
#note Or ZAG 12J.
>Joshua_Sokol: ?CEMNOR E4 ChOREM.N +94 238
>Mike: AEMNORT 15H TONEARM. +83 166
>Joshua_Sokol: AAIIINP 14F PIANI +23 261
>Mike: CEEPRTU 8A CREP. +36 202
#note PEEK 12L leads the sim, but I can already feel the board shutting down, and want to make Josh work for it a little.
>Joshua_Sokol: ADIILLS 12H ILIAD +27 288
>Mike: ?EHTUWY 9C HU. +27 229
#note WYCH 4C leads to bingos faster, even though row 3 bingos won't score much of anything. Better to clear these high-pointers out all at once, as opposed to trying to use them separately to catch up.
>Joshua_Sokol: AILSTWY M9 W..ST +31 319
#note Starting to worry about FRISKERS a bit. Would like to score, reduce the damage FRISKERS would do, while retaining a decent leave that can score or even bingo next turn. My S is just about useless unless I want to tempt fate and try to achieve my own bingo ASAP with 13M WY(E)
>Mike: ?BEITWY F6 WE +28 257
#note This time WE is best, because I can't clear out all of the high-point tiles at once.
>Joshua_Sokol: AEILOUY 15B LOUIE +10 329
#note Do I blow the board open here? Go for points? Start trying to close lanes? I figured this allowed me to score next turn, and blocked a big lane that I no longer have to worry about. Quackle heavily favours N13 YO(M) here, which I considered, since it leaves me with at worst A(C)ULEI next turn. But I thought I could just score next turn anyway with a play there, and I wouldn't necessarily get another chance to block A8, which is the largest immediate threat to my lead, given Mike's last play. The F is still out there, but he does not have it. So I am also going for it.
>Mike: ?BBINTY -BBY +0 257
#note NITID J6 leads the sim; it's an interesting distraction, but I don't think it accomplishes what needs to be done here.
>Joshua_Sokol: ADJUVVY 14A JAY +35 364
#note Missing C7 J(EH)AD, which is a decent alternative. Would probably play that on a do-over.
>Mike: ?EINOTT A1 TEcTONI. +80 337
#note Or STENOTIC.
>Joshua_Sokol: ABDEUVV 4C VA. +16 380
#note This time I saw a play too late. C7 B(EH)AVE is leagues better than this! Ouch
>Mike: AEFLNOQ 8N OF +60 397
#note It might actually be worth waiting a turn on this and dumping the Q first, since there's really no effective way to block this spot. QI G13 wins the sim, and I think it makes sense. Wish I'd thought of it. As it is, Josh's next play puts me in an uncomfortable spot.
>Joshua_Sokol: BDEEGUV 7J DEBUG +13 393
#note I think it's obvious that I have to make one of two plays here. G2 BUDGE, or 7J DEBUG. A play like 2A (E)VE seems good in theory, but Mike could just play short and win. But perhaps it's my best shot. Hard to analyze this position correctly, since the Q is out and I basically lose if I draw it. But Mike doesn't necessarily lose if he has it. Maybe this play was really bad. I definitely didn't have a good chance, but I lucked out so bad! I chose this over BUDGE to outrun the Q and not give back easy points.
>Mike: AEGHLNQ G13 Q. +21 418
#note This is still best, though I considered delaying on *this* turn (since I have two spots for the Q, and Josh isn't bingoing, there's no immediate urgency to dump the Q). This wins if the E, V, or Y is in the bag, and ties if the B or T is in there.
>Joshua_Sokol: BEOSTVY C2 BE.VY +32 425
>Mike: AEGHLNO 5E .ALOGEN +20 438
#note Sigh.
>Joshua_Sokol: OST 2C .OTS +8 433
>Joshua_Sokol: (H) +8 441
